Chapter 1

One shall be lost in the land without rain. Those words rang in my head as I tried to sit up. I banged my head on a piece of metal instead. My eyes started to adjust to the darkness, and when I could see, I saw that I was in a pile of metal. I tried pushing it away, but it wouldn’t budge. I looked around for something to push it away with, like another price of metal that I could put in the small hole to push it aside. I got lucky and found a thin but long rod. I put the end in the small hole, and pushed it backwards, making the top of it go forwards, successfully pushing it aside. Once the hole was larger, I started pushing it with my hands instead, eventually it gave way and I climbed out. I saw the road in front of me, and started walking towards it. I couldn’t see anyone anywhere. But something on the ground caught my eye. I looked down, and saw the figurine that I had given to Percy for Nico. I crouched down and picked it up. I put it in my pocket so that I could give it to him if I could find my way to Camp, or find the Hunters. No, not if. When. When I find Camp or the Hunters. I grabbed my bow and quiver off of my back and saw the wood part of my bow was dinged up, and the string looked like it could snap at any moment. My quiver was a little smushed, and some of the arrows were broken, and all were dinged up. I grabbed the ones that were broken, and looked around for what to do with them. Unfortunately, I hadn’t been with the Hunters long enough to know what to do when stuff like this happened. I put them back in my quiver, just in case I could find some glue, or at the very least tape, to put them back together. I counted my arrows that were in one piece. Eight out of twenty. I’ll have to make the best of them in case a monster finds me. I looked at my hip and saw that my sheath for my dagger was snapped, but my dagger was okay. I put it in my pocket, and my bow and quiver back on my back. I heard a sound in the distance, and I looked in the direction that it had came. After a little bit, I saw a blue truck. It had grey stripes on it, and the number F-350 on them. My face brightened and I waved my arms and ran by the car as it passed, yelling, “Hey! Help!” But it kept going. I sighed, and sat down. It was a while until another car passes I jumped up and waved my arms, jumping up and down. I yelled, “Hello! I’m here! Stop! STOP!” The driver of the grey and black car, Jeep the thing on the back said, pulled over. The brown hair and eyed girl rolled her window down, “What are you doing out here? It’s not safe.” I muttered, “Tell me about it.” I spoke up, “Can you give me a ride?” She nodded and pointed her thumb to the passenger seat. She said, “Get in.” I smiled, and ran to the passenger side, getting in. She said, “My name is Michelle.” I said, “I’m Bianca. Could you get me to-” I hesitated for a second, I have no idea where the Hunters would be, and only the vaguest clue where Camp is. I finished, “Long Island? I know it’s probably a long ride, but I was here umm... hunting with some of my friends, but I got lost and a branch fell, and I got knocked out. I don’t know where they are, how long it’s been, and OW my head hurts.” I clutched my head, just as my headache had sharpened for a second. She said, “I’m actually on my way to New Jersey. From there I could get you a cab or Ubër.” I nodded, “That would be great, thank you.” She nodded. Just as she was about to take off, she turned to me and said, “Oh, and it’s June 13, 2011.” My must have bulged because she asked, “How long has it been?” I said, “Over four years.” She asked, “And your friends didn’t come looking for you?” I told her, “Well, we were being chased by a bear and I was in the back, so they had to keep going.” She said, “You must be hungry. I’ll get you some food at the next gas station. Any preferences?” I told her, “No, anything is fine. And thank you, Michelle. Really. This means a lot.” She nodded, and the car took off. She asked, “So what are you doing this far away from New York if you were hunting?” I said, “I heard there was good hunting here.” She chuckled, “I don’t know where you heard that, I haven’t seen a thing since I’ve been going through here.” I laughed a little, “I guess my adoptive brother was wrong about more than one thing.” It was true, Apollo’s Oracle has said that I would be lost. Well, I sort of guess I was. I am pretty lost. I couldn’t say The mummy in my summer camp’s attic that miraculously walked to all of us during capture the flag told me I’d be lost here, so I guess it was wrong. I had to be careful what I said, it was obvious Michelle was a mortal.

After we had eaten, she made an attempt to get to know me better, “So... do you have any hobbies?” I shrugged, “Not really, I mean I like archery.” I pulled my bow and quiver off of my back. She looked and said, “That’s really cool. What happened to them thought?” I said, “I don’t know, the ground was pretty rocky when I fell.” My hand drifted to my pocket, and I pulled Nico’s Hades figurine out. I just stared at it, wondering what Nico will do when I get to Camp. Michelle asked, “What is that?” I answered sighed, “I saw this on the ground before the tree fell. It’s for my brother, Nico. He likes this game called Mythomagic. It’s based off of Greek mythology. This is the only figure he doesn’t have. But now- now I’m not sure if he will still like it, or if he’s changed and doesn’t want me to come back.” Her face visibly softened, “I’m sure he’ll be extremely excited to see you.” I smiled. I looked out the widow, and thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I looked, squinting my eyes. I saw a brown horse, with a girl riding it. But it was going so fast that I couldn’t make out any details.

Everything was going just fine until we were about an hour from New Jersey when I saw a beautiful woman with black hair and blue eyes turn into a monster with flaming hair, sharp teeth, and bat wings. It landed in front of the car, and stopped it with what had to have been incredible strength. Michelle screamed. I jumped out of the car, vaguely hearing her yell, “Don’t go near it! I’ll call the police!” I turned and yelled, “No! Don’t call the police!” I then asked, “Wait, you can see that?” She yelled, “Of course I can see it! What aren’t you telling me?!” I called, “I’ll explain everything! Just stay in the car!” She either didn’t hear me, ignored me, or didn’t care because she hopped out of the car with a gun. I yelled, “No, Michelle! It won’t do anything but make it attack you!” She shot at it anyway. The monster turned its attention from me to her. It was about to lunge when I shot at it with my bow and arrow. It hissed and turned back to me. I yelled, “Michelle, go! Run! Hide! I’ll come find you once I kill this thing!” She yelled, “I am not leaving you here for that... that thing to kill you!” I yelled, “No! Just go! I promise I’ll be fine!” She seemed hesitant, but ran to the woods next to the road. I notched an arrow, and pointed it at the things chest. I let go, but it didn’t do anything. I only had 6 arrows left, I had to make them count. It lunged at me and scratched my shoulder, and it started bleeding. It swiped at my leg, but I grabbed my dagger put of my pocket and stabbed it in the chest. It exploded, leaving gold dust behind. I looked up and saw someone with what I guessed was a phone up to her ear. She was just standing there, next to her parked car. I quickly realized what was going on. She called the police. I picked up my dagger and ran into the woods as I heard police sirens. I yelled, “Michelle!” I heard a thud and a yelp. I ran over to it, and saw that it was Michelle. She must have climbed into the tree and then jumped when she heard me. I helped her up, “Are you alright?” She nodded, “Yeah.” Her eyes drifted to my arm, “I’m not sure I could say the same for you.” I said, “I’ll be fine, but we have to go. It’s getting dark, and the police are probably after us.” She started to walk, but she winced. I said, “You must have sprained your ankle. Here.” I ripped off a part of my shirt a grabbed two sturdy twigs. I put one stick on each side of her ankle, and then wrapped the fabric around it all, making a splint. I heard yells and saw flashlight being pointed at us as I tucked in the fabric so that it would stay. I got up and helped Michelle up. I said, “We have to go. Now.” I slung her arm around my neck and she limped/ran with me. I don’t know what direction we are going, or even where we are going to go, but all I know as of now is that we have to stay away from the police, get away from the area, and eventually to-hopefully-Camp.
