Chapter one

It was Friday morning when my best friend called to tell me what we were doing tonight. Instead of my normal Friday night festivities which include movies and junk food, it is a party at someone's beach house. The only reason I agreed to go was because my mom usually works late on Friday's so she won't care if I spend the night at Olivia's house tonight. I rummaged through my closet to find some clothes that I could wear tonight even though she would probably give me something of hers to wear and threw them into my duffel bag.

I ran down the stairs so I could tell her before my ride to school got here. "Mom!" I called from the bottom step. "I'm going to spend the night at Olivia's house tonight!" Just before she could answer me I heard a honk which was my cue to leave.

I opened the car door to reveal my best friend, Olivia's smiling face. As usual she had the music up way to loud to talk without having to shout what we were saying so we didn't talk on the way to school. Thankfully, the Miami traffic wasn't as bad as usual so it wasn't a very long ride until we arrived at school.

"Excited for tonight?" She asked as we walked up to the big brick building that was our school. Even though it wasn't even eight yet the hallways were packed, as usual. The school was usually pretty full before school started.

I rolled my eyes at her. She knew I hated social events with a great passion. I was only doing this because she's my best friend. "Not in the least bit."

"You'll be fine, I promise." She reassured me. I've always been the type of person who would rather stay at home and watch movies than go out while she would rather party or be somewhere with a lot of people. Even though I hate it she usually talks me into going out to do something once a week.

"C'mon let's get to class before Mrs. Harrison gives you a detention for being late so often." I said. Mrs. Harrison, our US History teacher, deeply despises Olivia she's always looking for some reason to give her a detention so I try to make sure she has no reason to give her one.

We got to class just in time and took our seats in the back of the room. Our seats were right behind Olivia's crush, Alexander, and his cute friend, Dean who is the school's star quarterback.

The classroom was decorated with posters of historians and quotes on the wall from several different historians. There were quotes from people like Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and Harriet Tubman. In the front of the classroom was a whiteboard with the daily bell schedule on the right hand side and in the middle was today's topic that we were going to learn about.

Mrs. Harrison walked in about two minutes after the bell had rung carrying a stack of papers on one arm and a coffee mug in her other hand. "Good morning, students," she said as she set the items she was carrying down on her desk and turned toward the whiteboard to write something on the board. "Today, we will be starting on our Civil War unit."

She turned back around and grabbed the stack of papers that she had set down on her desk. She passed out enough to the first person in each row of the classroom to go down the entire row. It was a page of questions to answer from reading the textbook. On the top of the page it said that all the answers could be found in chapter 33.

"Before you start on the paper I just passed out, I would like you to get out your notebooks and take some notes." Mrs. Harrison said as she pulled up a slideshow and turned off the lights. She spent the next twenty minutes talking and going through the slideshow while we took notes on what she was saying. After she was finished we had about another thirty before the bell rang to go to the next class.

It was finally time to go after 8 long hours of being in school. As I was putting my books in my locker I saw Olivia running up to me. "You ready?" She asked once she had finally reached me.

"As ready as I'll ever be." I said as she dragged me away from my locker and into to parking lot. We got into her car and she started to drive to her house.

Olivia lived in the rich part of town. The houses around here were big unlike the small house I lived in with just my mom. It may be tiny compared to Olivia's house but it was perfect for just the two of us.

Once we arrived at her house she dragged me in and up the stairs to her bedroom. Surprisingly enough her bedroom was always clean. Everything about her was a mess; her schedule, school attendance, and even her car but she was able to keep her bedroom in good shape.

Her room was nice room. It had a nice vanity for her makeup and hair supplies, her queen sized bed with purple sheets, a huge to perched on top of a nice Rv stand, and her walk in closet.

"Alright, let's start with your makeup." She said steering me towards the vanity and pushing me down onto the chair in front of it. She made my eyes a rosy pink and lips a light shade of pink. She then started on my hair by putting it up in a ponytail and curling it until it was how she wanted it.

She walked into her closet to find something for me wear to the dreadful party she was making me go. I stood up to have a good look at myself in the mirror. I loved the way she did my makeup and hair it always looked so much more professional than when I did it.

"Alright, I think I've got the perfect outfit." She said, coming out with a plain white crop top and a pair of denim shorts.

I didn't really like the idea of a crop top but at least she wasn't going to try and force me into a skin tight dress because there is no way that would be happening.

I went into the bathroom next door to her bedroom to change. I stripped off the clothes I had worn to school and threw them into a pile on the bathroom floor, I would pick them up when I was done. I took a deep breath and looked up at my reflection in the mirror. I wasn't very fond of my body but I've been working on learning to deal with it. I twisted it and looked at it from different angles thinking it would somehow make it look better but I knew I was wasting my time so I stopped and put on the clothes that Olivia had given me.

I emerged from the bathroom wearing the clothes Olivia had given me and carrying the ones I took off. Once in her room I opened my duffel bag and shoved my clothes inside.

She looked me up and down admiring how I looked before saying, "Damn, my best friend is hot."

I rolled my eyes and laughed before replying, "Look who's talking." Her blonde hair cascaded down her back and she was wearing a simple short black dress paired with a pair of black heels.

I pulled on my white converse because they were the only shoes I had brought with me. At least they complemented my outfit nicely and didn't look out of place. If it had been up to Olivia I would be wearing heels to this party but thankfully she doesn't share the same shoe size with me otherwise she would've made me wear a pair of her heels.

"Alright, are you ready to go to this party?" She asked as she grabbed her phone off of her bed.

I didn't answer I just gave her a sharp nod and followed her out the door.
