The Druidars

Druidars are nomads that roam the lowlands to the west of the Hkyadlas mountains, they are beings that have mastered the balance that knits all of nature together. The average life of a druidar wiseman can span longer even than that of the elves. The druidar clan has an elite breed of warriors, called "Shektari", they are shapeshifters that can morph into many types of animals as long as they have a similar built in size and weight to their human form; although legends account for some that have mastered the art of shapeshifting so that they could morph into something as small as a squirrel but only for a few minutes.

The many rituals and tests that a druidar must pass in order to become Shektari, are known only to the druidar elders, and very few clan members are selected by them once they have seen twelve winters, this selected few will have to face the "trial of nature", ad start their six year journey to become Shektari in a challenge where they would either succeed or perish.

Kaisha's Challenge

The cave was cold,.... the air felt stale; as if time had been still inside for many years, her small steps echoed inside, and not for the first time since entering the girl wished she had chosen the lowlands or the lake instead of the cave. The still air and cold she could endure, but the darkness this deep inside the cave was making her heart miss  a beat, the low growling that had started minutes ago made every step harder, and she was now beginning to question her resolve, had the elders been right in choosing her for the trial six years ago? , she had to steel her nerves, and go through with this, she must, to choose any other alternative was to choose death. She was glad it was her brother who brought her to the village entrance, it was his image standing there waiting for her return that kept her going now, "Kaisha, be courageous and always follow your instincts" those were his parting words, not a tear was shed, they both knew this could be the last time they saw each other, but it was not the moment to be sentimental, she had to be focused on one thing only, conquering the pack's Alpha male, and her instincts told her she was close now.

As she made her way deeper in to the ground, she recalled how at the break of dawn she had set out from the village, the wolves had followed her ever since she entered the forest, they kept hiding in the shadows, she sensed them more than anything, she had not seen them, but her senses were sharp and as she ran she could hear the shuffling of paws around her, she could make out at least five different scents, surely at least two males, they were tailing her, but they had kept a distance, and two females were keeping to her left and right, a bigger wolf she had seen at the distance had gone in front to the mountain tops, probably to alert the Alpha of her coming, it had eyes that looked like blue and gray mixed together, she could tell how big it was from the prints she was now chasing after.

As soon as she had entered the cave the wolves finally showed themselves, "Be cautious at all times, never show any signs of fear, or they will tear you appart right from the start, you would not even reach the cave", she remembered her brother's only advice before starting on her journey. He knew best in this matter, having gone through it himself, ..... she had made it this far, so they deemed her worthy, they now had sat at the entrance and she knew there was no going back, if she failed to bond with the Alfa and came back to the entrance in human form, the wolves would kill her without a seconds thought; a sharp cracking noise brought her back to reality, being in the full dark for well over six hours now had keened her senses so much that even though the sound had been as quiet as a leaf turning in the wind, to her it sounded like a twig snapping in the forest ground.

She stopped, her skin tensed, she drew small soundless breaths to control herself, her heart felt like a war drum in her chest, she knew the Alfa was near, she could picture it in the dark, judging her, calculating,....even though darkness was absolute in here, she closed her eyes, to focus her hearing and smelling senses even more, and that's when she felt it, something was terribly wrong here!, she had been so focused on her task that it had eluded her until now, the air smelled of death,...... she opened her eyes and looked frantically around, searching, looking everywhere, until she saw them, in the back against the wall shone a couple of bright green eyes filled with malice, there was no Alpha wolf in here, what she had to face now, was a Dire Wolf!
