Prologue

A bright light shook the Existence. This was the beginning of something unfathomable, a chain of events that could not be put into a simple set of words, but instead, a grand tale. The light spread into space, at a speed unreachable by anything other than divine beings. An eruption of colors soon followed. Bright crimson and deep violet filled the Existence, along with every other color in between.

Elements began to form, and among these elements, a strange object began to develop. A circle of solid matter that began to absorb the very energy of the Existence. It eventually became the shape of a gem that would fit on a ring. This was the Gem of Duality, and within it was the essence of thought and feeling. The gem itself was sentient and self-aware, and contained two sides of equality: Greatness and Righteous Heroics, the side of Creation, as well as Ferocity and Desolation, the side of Destruction. The gem used the essence of existence to form a ring shape that it could sit upon, and from the newly created ring, a living being formed. The being was known as Omenis.

Omenis glowed with an aura of golden light and emitted infinite power. His face would never suffer from age or the effects of time, and his eyes would gleam golden. Being the physical amalgamation of the ring's power, Omenis set out to create a universe of prosperity and beauty, and formed galaxies with millions of solar systems within them, as well as creating vast, complex worlds, giving the seeds of life to those that could hold them. His vision would create a universe true and just, and give the mortals that would eventually inhabit these worlds free thinking and the will to do whatever they would please.

All of the Existence bathed in the heavenly light of Omenis' creation. Of course, with all creations of light, there must always be a form of darkness....

Chapter I: Mither

The sun rose on Mither. It was a lowly planet; small in size, but the people that inhabited it made it so much bigger. A majority of the planet was water, but there was a sizable landmass that the Mitherians lived on, much like Pangaea. The entirety of the people were ruled over by the honorable King Marus and Queen Savir. Together, they helped bring their civilization to a new technological age, far superior to previous years, and the vast majority of the people of Mither saw them as heroes.

King Marus was not the largest individual, but nonetheless, he was a force to be reckoned with. Built like an ox, his broad shoulders and muscular stature struck not only fear into those that were against him, but respect into those that served below him. His eyes were a deep blue, and very inviting. Some would even call them entrancing. He was far more powerful than any other Mitherian on the planet, but that fact never went to his head. He had a heart of gold and always chose the path of righteousness no matter what the situation was, and his people held him in the highest regard because of it. His Queen, the beautiful Savir, was a smaller woman, with a slightly slender figure. Despite her stature, she was quite strong and did not back down from a challenge easily. She was a being who loved nothing more than seeing peace and happiness among her people, and she always made sure to visit the cities throughout Mither and make small talk with the citizens wherever she went, sometimes going so far as to investigate violent acts on her own in more crime laden areas of the cities. Even the royal guards of the palace, whose only job was to protect the royal family and never speak about matters other than security, were treated as family. As such, the royal guards swore they would protect the King and Queen no matter the cost, even if it meant giving their own lives in the process.

One of the busiest cities and gleaming productive areas of Mither was the capital city, Adolaron. It was a city of immense proportions, itself an example of the Mitherians technological prowess and strength. But in the center, there lay the King and Queen's palace. It was a towering building that shone bright in the day, and glowed in the night as the lights of the city reflected off of it. It was a gleaming trophy of superiority that proved itself day in and day out. On any other day, the inhabitants of Mither would be busily going about their daily responsibilities, whether that be working in their trade and making sure infrastructure was operating smoothly or attending schooling to acquire skills for their desired trade.

This day, however, would be much different than any other. It was the young prince's fourth birthday, and King Marus wanted everyone to feel the same celebratory happiness that he did. He opted to give the entire population of Mither a day of rest, from all jobs and services that weren't. Everything was joyous throughout the capital and all the land, and there seemed to be nothing that could turn such a day sour. However, there was one event that could cause problems, but such an event had not occurred for fifteen years prior.

* * *

It was the day of King Marus' coming of age, and the Mitherian people were excited but saddened. They would crown a new king, but also lose the one they knew for so long. In Mitherian history, rulers are chosen through a family tie, called the Mythic Bloodline. Legend says this bloodline began with Omenis' blessing cast onto a pure Mitherian by the name of Adolarus, the namesake of Adolaron. Every few generations, a male member of the Mythic Bloodline is born with exceptional power and a heart that is pure and heroic. They are known as Mythic Descendants. This member then becomes the next Mythic King. As long as the current Mythic King has no successor, he will not age, and will be a symbol of strength for as long as it takes until another Mythic Descendant is born. Once the next Mythic Descendant comes of age and the seating ceremony of the new King takes place, the previous one will pass when the sun sets on the day of the seating. The crowning ceremony usually takes place as early in the morning as possible, because there are usually many things the previous Mythic King will try to do to fulfill his final wishes before night falls.

The crowning ceremony was a very big deal. Very few who were alive at the time had witnessed the crowning of the previous king, so the majority of the population buzzed on the day it would occur. Many people could not attend the actual ceremony, as it was too far of a drive, and the crowds would be enormous. Luckily for them, they could watch it on television, and still experience history being made.

The throne room was adorned with beautiful decorations. There were hand-painted murals on the walls, carvings in the ceiling, and statues of past leaders throughout, as homage to the royal past of Mither. Marus wore ceremonial golden battle armor, with a long flowing cape that draped behind him. The way the light shined upon him made his armor glow and his cape emanate a scarlet shade. To the sides of the great hall were dignitaries and representatives of every province, reporters for the news, and friends and family of the royal couple, preparing to kneel to their new king. This event did not go without security, however. On each side of the throne and throughout the room were the Royal Elite, the most highly trained guards in the Mitherian Defense Force. The throne room was located on the second floor of the palace, with a balcony attached to it, so the king could speak to the people during a gathering, This is where Marus would go to make a speech after he took the throne.

The seating ceremony had just concluded, and King Marus took a seat on the throne. The people of Mither began to celebrate, and happiness echoed throughout the capital. Suddenly, a feeling of uneasiness began to spread through the air, and a strange dark energy appeared. "Oh no, he is here... I was afraid this would happen." the old king said worriedly. No one knew what he meant by that, but they would soon find out. A man appeared from the clouds, and descended from the sky, landing on the balcony of the throne room.

He stood tall and reeked of arrogance, with an expression of stolidity and a slight tinge of disgust. He wore robes of black, and his eyes burned deep red, likes the fires of hell itself. His gaze would make even the bravest soldier shudder down to his bones. As he walked toward the throne, the room fell to a hush. Everyone who stood in the carpeted walkway to the throne quickly made way, and no guard dared approach him. One of the guards by the throne, however, showed his bravery by placing himself in front of him. "State your business here..." he said stoically, though  fear showed itself in his body language.

"I will speak with your king, and you will not stand in my way." the visitor declared. His voice was vile and unjust. The soldier that dared to stand in his way quickly stood back, regretting his decision. "So, Marus..." the man began. "You have not met me yet, but I will introduce myself. You will address me as Lord Segetel. It goes without saying that I am not to be displeased. I am far more powerful than you could ever imagine. As with all the previous kings, you will kneel as a show of respect." "Now, why would I kneel to you, when you have shown no sign of your worthiness?" Marus replied. A feeling of immense pressure began to fill the room, and an aura of darkness formed around Lord Segetel. "Marus, please. Just kneel to him. Trust me." the old king pleaded in a concerned tone. Reluctantly, King Marus went down to one knee and bowed to Segetel, as did the rest of the room.

Everyone in the room stood up, but they still could not stand completely straight, for fear still held them prisoner. Segetel stated: "I will be respected, and you will never act outward like that toward me ever again. This is why." He raised his arm, and on his finger was a ring. It was darker than the shadow of the night and had a gemstone inside it that gleamed red as blood. He pointed the gemstone toward Savir, Marus' soon-to-be bride at the time, and a strange translucent red beam emanated from it. "When you decide to have a family, your punishment will be extended." Segetel said firmly. Suddenly, Queen Savir began to feel nauseous, and couldn't stand by herself. "What the hell did you do to her!?" Marus exclaimed. Segetel quickly responded. "I wouldn't recommend raising your voice like that at me." Marus stood and approached him, but all of a sudden Segetel extended his arm and forced Marus through the air and to the ground, without toughing him in the slightest. Marus lay in shock at what just occurred, and Segetel said, "In time... you will see." He then turned and walked back toward the balcony, his ring glowing beside him.

Marus arrived at his feet and began to briskly walk after him."Where do you think yo-" the old king quickly grabbed Marus' arm and pulled him back. "Don't... you have no idea what he would do to us." Segetel looked back and made eye contact with Marus, smirked, and slowly rose up into the sky. "Don't do anything idiotic. You never know how much damage one wrong move can cause." he said as he shot into the upper atmosphere and out of sight. The dark energy began to fade, and the sky became blue once again.

Later that evening, when the sun had shown its last ray, the old king passed. The dignitaries and royal placeholders celebrated his life and his reign, but a feeling of dread was still in the air. The old king was dead, and the people lay fearful of a man with power that was unthinkable by their standards. King Marus saw this in his people, and he resented Segetel for causing it. That night, Marus vowed that he would never let Segetel treat him, his people, or anyone so unjustly ever again. Even if it meant giving his life.

* * *

It was inevitable, that Segetel would return to Mither, but no one could have predicted it would be the prince's birthday, of all days. The day King Marus dreaded the most was upon them, and no one could have ever prepared for the events that would follow Segetel's last arrival.
