The Other Side

“Hey mom, can I walk to the beach?” I asked with a sigh.

“Sure Angie as long as you come back by 3:00 am.” She yelled back from the kitchen.

Hey, I’m Angela, Angela Williams, but most people call me Angie. By most people I mean my family and the only two friends I have, Eugene Finnigan and Leela Finger. The dorkiest kids in the 3rd grade.

Well, that’s what all the popular kids in my school say. In my opinion, I think they’re pretty cool, and it’s not just because they are my friends (ok maybe a little bit). Now, back to me going to the beach. I usually go to the beach when I’m sad. I don’t tell my mom that because she likes talking about feelings, and I’m just not that type of person.

The reason why I’m sad is because I’m moving away from my friends. My family, my brother and my mother, are moving to Mento, California from where we live now which is Rico, California. My mom has a tan complexion she is always outside, she is a firefighter. My mom has curly bleach blonde hair with apple green eyes and a slim figure.

My brother Garrett is one of the “popular kids”. He doesn’t know it, but he is. All of the girls are all over him. He is 5’8”, he has long curly strawberry blonde hair to his back, he always keeps his hair in a bun. He has a sharp jawline that all the girls love, a trimmed beard, dark green eyes, and a muscular body shape. I hate it, I know it’s not his fault, but I guess I’m jealous. But I love him anyway, he a cool guy.

As I was saying before, I’m sad because I have to move away from the only friends I have and start over. I honestly don’t like talking to people and making new friends. It’s not that I don’t like people, it’s just that I’m an introvert and awkward and it makes me uncomfortable.

I sat, took off my sandals and wiggled my fingers and toes through the warm grainy sand as I thought about life. Then when I realized there is no way of getting out of moving away, I decided to take a swim in the ocean, it always makes me forget about my problems. I swam through the beautiful clear blue ocean for about two hours, then I realized I should be heading back. I tried to head back, but the waves kept pushing me back and back and back and I couldn’t go back to shore. I started panicking, I didn’t know what to do, and then I passed out.

As I woke up I started hearing whispering voices. One deep voice was like, “Tsar ge fouf?” in a disgusted tone, and another softer feminine was like, “Ov o beggy namzfic.”

I opened my eyes and I was horrified when I saw their faces. Where am I? What are those… those monsters?

The Monsters

“Uh… where am I?” I asked the horrifying, what  looked like monsters, “Do you speak English?”

The masculine monster said, “Yes, we speak 6,909 languages, but our main language here is Arlen.” My mouth dropped open like a cartoon character.

“Wow.” I said in shock, “I’m not trying to be rude, but what are you guys?”

“We’re humans, what are you?” the feminine one asked.

“What?” I replied, confused, “I’m a human.” The two looked at each other in confusion. “Maybe,” I began, “We see each other as monsters like I see you guys as a monster, and you see me the same way, but we don’t see that in ourselves because we see “people” like us every day if that makes sense.”

“Yeah, I get it.” the monsters said in unison.

“One question,” I said.

“Sure, go for it.” The masculine one answered.

“How did you find me.” I asked, “And, where am I?”

“Well,” the feminine one said, “We found you floating in off to shore, so we decided to save you.”

“Well, thank you very much,” I said with gratitude.

“You’re welcome,” they said in unison again.

“How am I going to get back home?” I ask almost in tears.

“Don’t worry ma’am, we’ll ask The Committee of Homo Sapiens, and see how you can get back home,” the masculine one said in a soft sweet voice, “Let’s go.”

The Committee Of Homo Sapiens

As we walked on the bright yellow sand I noticed that the “monsters” are not as scary as I thought before. The feminine monster has an unusual light caramel skin, she has this black paint in the corner of her eyes, and red paint on her lips, green eyes, a small mole on her left cheek, and she had no hair. And the masculine monster has pale almost white skin, a perfect jawline like my brother, curly dirty blonde hair, and pretty violet-colored eyes.

“Hey, what’s your guy’s names?” I asked finally.

The masculine one answered, “My name is my name is Artz Throne.”

And the feminine one answered after him, “And my name is Beri Yom.” Hmm? I thought to myself, Very unusual names.

“That’s nice,” I said sweetly, then I answered, expecting them to ask for my name, “My name is Angie Williams.”

“Wow, That’s so weird.” Artz laughed.

“No offense, but that’s exactly what I thought about your guy’s name,” I explained.

“None taken.” They said in unison, they seem to always say things at the same time.

I was about to go into the office, but Beri grabbed my arm and told me, “Women can’t go in.”

I looked at her confused, “Why not?” I asked.

“Because that’s the way it is, I don’t even know why,” Beri replied. “Oh,” I said confused, “Ok, I guess.” Artz came back half an hour later.

“Um, Angie you’re not gonna like this, but you’re gonna have to stay here for 7 days.” He hesitated.

“Wait! What? Why?” I asked, shocked.

“Well, the gateway to the other world is locked every 7 days, I’m so sorry ma’am.” Artz apologized.

“It’s fine, but where am I gonna stay,” I asked. “You can stay with us.” Beri replied, “We have an extra room.”

“If that’s ok with Artz,” I said, then we both looked at him.

He hesitated, then said, “Ok, fine, it’s only for 7 days.”
