Chapter 1: An Unexpected Friendship

Lark was furious. As soon as he was out of the class he went looking for Blaze. However almost instantly he had disappeared into the sea of moving students. It had been one thing that everyone knew that silly unreasonable part of him. But it was another to come out with them all laughing at him. Especially Blaze, he had been born perfect, with his ‘unlimited potential’. He had been born, he hadn’t deserved it. Then with his ‘amazing’ history, and Vareth standing up for him and carrying him to the medical bay. He had gone to this school so it could be all about him. Not some low level orphan. Lark had been born a noble child but that didn’t mean Blaze could take all his glory. He had disregarded his threatening words. He felt a deep anger inside him. Just then a boy stumbled into him. “Hey! Watch it!” He almost yelled out in raw fury. But the boy stood his ground and instantly Lark began to like him for that. “Who do you think your talking to? I am Marthen, son of the Lord of Ironhill town.” He was defiant and slightly arrogant, something Lark liked in an ally, so he smiled and stuck out his hand. “Sorry,” He said still smiling. Marthen was taken aback and hesitated for a few moments, he took his hand and shook it. “I was in a hurry, I was looking for a boy named Blaze. Do you know him?” He asked. Marthen’s expression seemed torn between anger and hope. “Oh, I know him. Are you friends?” He said almost cautiously. Lark laughed loudly. “Oh no, you could say we’re just the opposite,” Marthen’s face lit up. “You know... I don’t particularly like him either.” Lark knew what he was implying. “Would you like to help me find him? He.... owes me something.” He asked. “Gladly.” Smiled Marthen.

Chapter 2: A Laughing Mistake

Blaze had melted into the crowd as fast as he could. When he looked back he saw Lark almost yelling at a kid in front of him. He looked fimiliar, but he couldn’t place a name. He looked forward and made his way to lunch, keeping his head down. Lunch was a little different to breakfast, while breakfast had everyone in one room, lunch allowed children to take their food and sit somewhere different. He made his way through the canteen, picking up his food on the way and out into another hallway. He made it to the entrance and walked out. He sat down on one of the benches and began to eat. Caren walked out smiling. “You remember everywhere I say we should meet, don’t you?” He said. Blaze just nodded. They ate and talked. The conversation moved to family. Caren’s smile disappeared and Blaze became worried, it wasn’t in Caren’s personality to be sad. “What are you sad about, you had parents right?” He asked. Caren made a sad attempt at lifting his face into a smile. “Yeah. But what do you think happens when they say you are special. You don’t just go on a camping trip. You leave. I don’t know if I will get to go back.” He sighed. Blaze didn’t know how Caren felt, so he sat there awkwardly. He felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to be greeted by a fist in his jaw. Blaze was stunned, and instantly Caren appeared beside him. Blaze rubbed his chin, his expression cold, and looked up. He was greeted by a nightmare, Marthen and Lark standing side by side smiling. “Hey! Back off,” demanded Caren. Lark and Marthen laughed in the face of the tall kid. “What are you going to do? We just want Blaze, stand aside.” Marthen spat. “What did he do to you?” Replied Caren. Lark gladly stepped in, “He is a lying theif, he is the ‘Perfect Boy’ and should be put in his place. Caren calmed himself, “If you have an issue with another student, you should take it up with on of the headmasters. Otherwise it is not my issue.” Lark threw the next punch. But Caren held out his hand, palm first and a flag of bright white spilt the air. It connected with Lark’s fist and he helped back and fell. Blaze had just about recovered now. He put a hand on Caren’s shoulder. “Hey, that’s enough.” Caren nodded. But Marthen’s expression darkened. He balled up his hands and charged. Caren grabbed the flying fist and threw his one into Marthen’s face. Just then Garkot turned the corner in his headmasters robe.

Chapter 3: Warnings

Blaze paced nervously outside the headmasters room. He could hear Lark, Marthen and Caren talking to the headmasters inside. It had been Garkot who had found the scene, and he was usually quiet, but his expression when he saw the students was furious. Blaze had not been punished as he had not thrown a punch, but he had been called in to state his view. The he had been sent out. It was meant to be the weekend, allowing for two relaxing days, but their fun had been ruined by this. He could hear Morwa, the one famous for his temper, yelling. It didn’t help that Morwa was trying to help Marthen as he was the leader of the Sharks, and it just so happened to be that Marthen was a Shark as well. He heard Vareth’s loud voice call over Morwa’s and he fell silent. “Dismissed.” Was all he heard before Caren exited through the door. “Sorry,” Said Blaze. Caren smiled slightly, “I just got a warning. I am okay. It’s only when you get three warnings that you get a punishment.” He said. “They must hate you a lot to start throwing punches so quickly,” “Yeah, I don’t know about Lark, but Marthen and I have a long history.” Replied Blaze. Lark and Marthen glared as they walked past. “They got more though. Because they started the fight they have to help serve the canteen for the next week.” Caren laughed. His laughing only made tham scowl harder. “Come on,” Caren said, slapping Blaze on the back, “Let’s go forget this happened.”
