The Power Inside

Who Is Coroth?

Coroth is a character that I once drew as a character for a cool game played in a sand pit (I was young, okay?). He was meant to be a evil war lord. This year I redrew him hoping for a better result in the drawing quality. I loved how it turned out and I just had to put him in some of my books. (Which may not be out yet). But I thought, if I am going to add him into my books I should at least give him his backstory and how he became who he is. This book is based all around him and explaining him in a deeper context. It also continues all the way until the end of his story. Thanks for listening to this brief introduction, now let’s get into the book.

Hi Archie, how do you pronounce Coroth? Is it Cor-oth or Co-Roth?

Coroth’s Prophecy

In the shadows of the night,

Under the tall pine trees,

A child of grace and of fight,

Will be born.

In the shadows of the night,

Under the tall pine trees,

A child of grace and of fight,

Will be scorned.

In the shadows of the night,

Under the tall pine trees,

A child of grace and of fight,

Will be warned.

In the shadows of the night,

Under the tall pine trees,

The child’s fate,

Will be formed.

Chapter 1: A Child Scorned

Inside an Elven city. Under the shadows of the inky black sky and the tall, graceful pines. An innocent child was born. As the Elven doctor held out the baby, she smiled at another successful delivery. "Show me his face," said Ary with love. As the infant was lifted into the light, she stared with motherly protection.

There was a hard rap at the door, a few moments passed and a conversation could be heard from behind the wall. Then the door creaked open to reveal the figure of the wisest and most respected elf in the glorious elven city, one of the ancient Elders. He was dressed in a grey and gold cloak, and his face was hidden from sight. The man walked forward in confident strides to stand before Ary. The cloaked man quietly studied the child’s face beneath his hood, taking in his features. After a long time the Elder muttered a few words of magic, known only to him, and only to the Elder, was the child’s prophecy shown.

"I think I will name him Coroth, what do you think?" the new mother said to the Elder. The man stiffened in shock, he flinched and backed away out of the wooden room. Gasping in breath as he took in all which he alone had been shown. The future of Coroth pounding his mind like an ocean, each wave stronger than the last until it drowned out all thought. Death, terrible anger, unimaginable pain and suffering, unstoppable power, all encompassing war and the colossal far away roar of a dragon. The waves crashed into the Elder's mind, and a sheen of sweat appeared upon his brow. As Coroth started to cry the Elder spun, his hood almost falling down, and fled the room. Coroth's mother lovingly hushed him back to sleep. Anxiously she hid her fear of what the hooded man had seen, and what would become of her beautiful, new boy.

As her beautiful child was calmed he fiddled quietly with his mothers pointed ears and his own. Once again Ary was filled with the confidence that her child was innocent, and would always be. But what they didn’t see was the Elder watching beneath his hood, just outside the doorway, his mind troubled.

In the coming years Coroth grew healthy and strong. But his difference from other elven children was soon very noticeable. His eyes were especially angled for a elf and they were different colours. The right was a fiery, wrathful, burning red, the left a light but bold orange. As his teeth grew they became sharper than any other elf, as if filed to a point. Two of his upper teeth grew longer and they showed on the outside his mouth like an ancient tiger’s because of their size. He was also taller than some of the elves two years older than him.

When he was four Ary finally relented her isolation of Coroth and decided to let him make friends with the other children of the elven forest.

Coroth slowly walked clumsily out of his elvish style house, with its curved doorways and corners. Its flowing bark walls, looking as if it was a tree itself. He saw a group of children running around playing a chase game. As he ran over his mother looked protectively as she watched from her leaf green tinted, house window.

As Coroth reached the group of elven children they stopped to look at him. "Can I play!" asked Coroth excitedly for his very first time. The other children watched carefully as Coroth’s sharp, long teeth were bared as he spoke, cautiously keeping their distance. They stared at his eyes, both a different shade of a different colour.

The tallest child of the group walked forward, as he got closer it soon became apparent that Coroth was still taller than the leader. The leader eyed him up for a moment. "Yeah, but... Your it!" he yelled as he tapped Coroth on the shoulder, passing on something that, as it seemed to Coroth, he did not want. As soon as he realised this he looked around to find everyone had disappeared. He heard a faint voice in the distance that slowly faded away as its owner walked away "He really thought he could play with us! He’s..."

The little boy, sadness welling up inside, sat down as his mother quietly walked out to comfort him. As Ary sat down she softly picked Coroth up and placed him on her lap. Softly she lovingly patted him and comforted him with words of encouragement only a true mother would know. Coroth looked thankfully up into his mother’s eyes and Ary saw the deep sadness hidden, bottled up inside those beautiful coloured eyes. The sadness would change, into a fuel of anger. Over the next week Ary pulled up an elven chair, engravings of tree limbs and leaves curved perfectly into its frame, to the leaf green tinted window. Every day she sat watching out the window at the group of children, that were once giggling innocent youths in her eyes but were now heartless beasts. Every day she watched as they ran happily around, having fun under the shade of the tall pine trees. How they could fit in with their differences hurt her heart, they could allow one like them, short happy children, but not her own. One taller than all others his age, one with beautifully coloured eyes, and unusually sharp teeth. To her, her child was perfect, his differences only made him special.

Near the beginning of the next week as she followed the children with her eyes a movement caught her eye. Coroth, after finally gaining his courage again, excitedly ran up to the group of children. As Coroth talked to the children Ary listened in on the little conversation. "Please, can I play?" Asked Coroth desperately. "Go away, we don’t want you here," demanded the leader of the group, as he, once again, shoved himself to the front of the group to stare Coroth down, even though he was still shorter. "Your a creep, with your stupid eyes and stupid teeth," he sneered. Coroth’s fire red eye seemed to glint in anger while his orange eye welled up with sadness. But he hung his head and walked back to his beautiful tree home.

As Coroth’s small shoes sounded on the honey wood flooring Ary abandoned her post at the leaf green window to silently comfort him. "Why am I different mum? Why me?" He said as silent tears slid slowly down his angled face, and so angry, confused and with her heart broken, Ary softly picked up Coroth and walked out the bark door.
