Epitaph

How This Volume Works

This poetry volume is mostly composed of one-word prompts people have given me. I took those words and put them each into their own short poem that is associated with the death of something. Some of these poems are painful and sad, some of them aren't, and all of them will make you think. This is an experiment as well as a fun and interactive way for me to practice conciseness with poetry!

If you want to participate, feel free to comment a word, and I'll make it an epitaph poem. Most of these were given to me via people on wattpad.com, others I just came up with myself. Go ahead! Give me a word. I'll do something with it.

Faded

Even the tears of Heaven
Efface memories on stone,
Wipe me away, wipe me away,
Feathers on my breath
Tethers me to death
Weathers me away, away, away
And the solitude pervades
And the lassitude invades
Strides in like soldiers
On my burdened shoulders.
Feathers on my breath
Wipe me away, away, away

Paradise

Great orchids bloom
Against the humid, foggy gloom,
Seedlings eat the dead
And on my skin rolls angry red
As army ants crush my bones
Marching over my heaving tombstone;
And I rot six feet underneath
While paradise glares at me with gnashing teeth.

"Paradise" given to me in a thread game on wattpad.
