A Journey’s End

Day 1

My name is Denise Flare, I have blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. My life hasn’t always been a happy one but it hasn’t always been a depressing one either. No one will understand my story, except for you, the reader. This is my story and I hope you understand.

I was once really happy, and I never thought that my happiness could ever be taken from me but one day it was. I felt alone, I thought everyone hated me, I thought everyone wanted me dead, I wanted to die, I wanted to run away, I want to cut myself so I know if I’m actually alive, but then for a little while I was happy again. I tricked so many people into thinking I was happy until I finally tricked myself into believing it too, but then everything fell apart all over again. I wake up, just to want to go back to bed again, I always feel alone, I feel.....empty. Will I ever be truly happy or is this just a fools game?

“So Denise, when did this all start?” The  Psychologist  asked.

My psychologist was a woman maybe late twenties, brown hair, green eyes.

“You can’t ask a sixteen year old when it started, the darkness is everywhere. Once depression hit I realized that the monsters didn’t hide under my bed, it was always in my head. Hiding, waiting, and it won’t end until it ends you.” I said.

My psychologist looked frightened.

“Uh....well Denise, can you tell me what your life was like before your depression hit?” The Psychologist asked.

“Voices, I heard faint voices. The farther I fall, the louder they become. When I’m asleep, they scream, I can still smell their blood.” I said.

Kudos to this psychologist for pushing forward, the other ten gave up, ran away, they were too scared before, is this psychologist a horror junkie or does she actually want to help me?

“Uh... who’s blood can you smell?” The Psychologist asked.

Straight to the point, not shaking....impressive.

“Everyone like me, they finished their mission, mine was almost finished. However, my best friend came up behind me, hugging me and I can still remember everything she said to me.” I answered.

Memory:

This is it, I can’t take it anymore. Dad is drunk and abusive, mom died when I was ten, boyfriend died yesterday, my dog even died today, and my brother was murdered an hour ago, not to mention the babysitter killed my baby sister minutes before I got home. I killed him, at least justice was brought to my sisters death. All the cars down there look beautiful as they pass, I wonder if this is what god sees when he looks down at the world.

“Don’t do it, please don’t jump. I need you, Rashelle needs you, please don’t jump. Your my best friend, I don’t know what I would do without you, my life wouldn’t be the same, so please don’t jump. I can’t lose you too.” Alex pleaded.

Alex Johnson, skater girl, fighter, older sister of two brothers. She has red hair, blue eyes, and a smile that tilts awkwardly that some boys find really attractive. She’s got freckles everywhere, she was really loved in heaven that’s for sure. She held on to me tightly, she wouldn’t let go.

“Let me go! I can’t keep living like this, not any longer!” I shouted at her.

She had tears running down her face, it was the first time she’s cried since her brother died, he was five maybe six...he was murdered by someone we didn’t think would kill him.

“Please...I can’t lose you, I would fade into nothing if you died.” Alex kept pleading.

Tears threatened to run down my face, I feel like I’m a terrible friend. I need to jump, but, I can’t keep hurting her like this.

“If you jump you’ll actually be hurting me, you haven’t hurt me before, you were just telling me the truth and I didn’t want to believe it. However, please don’t jump, I’m begging you.” Alex said.

“I’ve been nothing but a burden, I need to die, if I die it’ll bring you and Rashelle together, and you wouldn’t fight anymore. You’ll hangout together, you’ll be friends again, and my dad won’t abuse anyone anymore. Besides, my extended family won’t care if I’m gone and my friends won’t even notice that I died, they’ll just think I’m ignoring them.” I said.

“That’s not true! Everyone will notice, I’ll be lost without you, I wouldn’t be able to even conjure enough energy to make an effort to be friends with Rashelle again. Believe me I know you feel alone, I get it, I do. Please, just don’t jump, I’m begging you.”

I need to jump, maybe I’ll do it when she’s not around to catch me, but for now I need to step off the ledge. She’s getting mascara all over my white shirt, and that crap doesn’t come out. When I stepped off the ledge I fell onto my knees holding her close, and I rocked her until she stopped crying.

Reality:

“What did she do?” The Psychologist asked curiously.

“She talked me off the ledge, she got me to not jump.” I told her.

“Kudos for her!” The Psychologist said amazed.

My psychologist clapped, smiling because she thought my memory had a happy ending.

“I’ve known her for a long time, and last night was the last time I would see a tear, a smile, anger, disappointment, or even satisfaction from her. I wasn’t fast enough, she was pushed off that very same roof I nearly committed suicide on, she was murdered. I saw the face of who did it, I wonder if they can recognize my face right now? after all, it was dark and raining when they pushed her off.”

“Do you know who pushed her?” The Psychologist asked.

Johnathon Gregor came in and put tea on the table.

“Here’s your tea, like you requested ma’am.” Johnathon said calmly.

“Thank you Johnathon, I appreciate it.” The psychologist said.

She put the cup to her lips, but hadn’t drank it yet. Johnathon almost left, but I caught his arm before he did, however, I never once looked away from my psychologist.

“Why Don’t you sit down Johnny? Join us for a cup of tea.” I asked.

“I’m actually supposed to go home, this is the time I usually clock out.” Johnathon seemed nervous.

“Just do it Johnathon.” The psychologist demanded.

Johnathon sat down, he was very muscular, had brown hair and black eyes.

“Now Denise, why did you want him to join us?” The Psychologist asked.

“So the man that killed my best friend, can look into my eyes and honestly tell me, why he did what he did.” I said simply with no emotion.

Johnathon’s face fell, he just realized I saw his face that night.

“Why did you push her off the ledge? You were her boyfriend, why did you do it?” I asked.

“She was mad, angry, I tried to calm her down. She wouldn’t listen, she tried storming off but I pulled her back to hard and she fell off the roof.” Johnathon said with panic and pain.

Pain was etched into his eyes.

“Do you want me to get the lie machine and see if he’s lying?” The psychologist asked.

“No need, he is already living with the pain. He should’ve let her cool off, maybe then I would still have my best friend.” I said with a little hatred.

“Knock it off Denise, Johnathon go home.” The psychologist demanded.

I watched as he walked out that door. “Alright, well now that is over, what happened after?” The psychologist asked.

“What happens next? Easy I walk out that door, because you went over the time limit.” I said with a little sass.

I walk out the door and go home.

Day 2

I sat on my chair, right across from the fireplace, and when I was drinking hot cocoa my front door opened. I got up to go close it but then someone tried strangling me with a rope and I immediately got my knife out of my front pocket and stabbed whoever was behind me. I screamed when I realized who it was, but how is it possible?!

“You’re supposed to be dead, how are you alive?!” I asked panicked

“Awe and here I thought you missed me, what babe am I not good enough for you?” Donn asked.

I looked down as I heard glass shattering, that’s when I realized I dropped my mug.

“You tried to strangle me, I would be happy if it weren’t for you being dead already!” I shouted.

“Don’t you get it?! I just want you to join me, after all it was your wish, it was never mine.” Donn said with anger.

“What are you talking about?!” I asked.

Then I remembered, there was a shooting star the night of his funeral and I made one wish.

“That night, I made a wish, and now it’s finally coming true, why a year later? Why not that very night?” I asked.

“Because it wasn’t time, now it is.” Donn said.

I backed up and fell on the ground, that’s when I heard a knock on my door and Donn disappeared. I got up and opened the door, covering my neck with my hand.

“Hey, you okay?” Jay Humphries asked.

Jay Humphries, the boy next door, the bad boy every girl wants. He’s got black hair, sea blue eyes, and dimples.

“Uh yeah, yeah I’m fine.” I said.

I nearly choked on my words, lying normally came easy, but seeing my dead boyfriend trying to kill me is not something I needed to experience.

“You don’t have to lie Denise, you wouldn’t be covering your neck if you were okay. Here, let me see.” Jay said.

I removed my hand from my neck and when he gasped I realized how bad it was.

“Here, come to my place. I can stop the bleeding, even keep you safe.” Jay said.

“No, I don’t know you that well.” I said to him.

“Fair Enough, do you have a medical kit then?”

 “Well, no.”

“My place it is, come on.”

He took my hand and led me to his place, he dragged me into his bathroom and sat me on the bathtub. He went through the bathroom cupboard’s, and grabbed his medical kit.

30 minutes later.

 “There, all done.”

“Thank you.” I said.

My neck had been wrapped.

“You don’t mind staying so I can get to know you, do you?”

“Not really, why do you want to get to know me?” I asked.

“I need to know who I’m getting involved with.”

“Fair enough.” I said.

I looked in the mirror and I saw Alex dripping with blood. My eyes widened in horror, I was afraid of what I could see.

“You see them, don’t you?” Jay asked me.

We didn’t say anything for a few minutes, which was awkward.

“My parents used to abuse me, then my girlfriend died of cancer. Everyone around me dies, so when you didn’t die from when your boyfriend tried to kill you, I knew you were meant to survive.” He said.

What?! Does that mean he can see Donn?

“Why are you telling me this? Can you see ghosts too?”

He laughed.

“Heavens no, I can see the monsters that live in your head though. The monsters can take form of anyone you miss the most, I’m a monster hunter.” Jay told me.

Holy crap, so that wasn’t Donn?

 “Who was he?” Jay asked.

I looked to the floor.

“His name was Donn, he died last year. He was different, misunderstood, and yet all he wanted was the world to be a better place. Then the next thing I know I get a call from the police saying he was murdered and they wanted me to identify the body. He didn’t deserve to get murdered, he had a good soul, everybody loved him, and he was one of the worlds best singers. They never found out who the murderer was, but I swore I would find whoever did it and kill them like they killed Donn.” I said.

“Let’s do it then, I bet whoever killed Donn also murdered my mother.”

“Your Mom was murdered?” I asked.

He nodded his head.

“Very well, we’ll start looking tomorrow. For now, I’m going to stay here for the night.” I said.

I left the bathroom, went straight to the living room and crashed on the couch.

Day 3

Today we’re going to find out who murdered Donn, my mother, and Jay’s mother.

“Good morning, sunshine. I’ve got eggs, bacon, and toast ready for you with a berry smoothie on the side.”

Did I just hear the word bacon?

“Did you just say you made bacon, as well as a smoothie?!” I sat up quickly and asked.

He laughed and nodded his head.

“Oh man, you really are full of surprises.” I said.

I ate everything faster then a lion, I think the last time I ate real food and not junk food, was about a week ago.

“Your like a master chef man, I’ve been eating a bowl of Ice cream for a full week. How on earth do you do it?” I asked.

“A master never shares his secrets.”

I laughed, then when I was finished eating, I washed my dishes and we left to go look for clues. We visited the morgue first, that way we could examine the bodies closely.

“Hello ma’am, hello sir, how may we be of service to you today?” The morgue lady asked.

“We would like to examine some bodies, we’re working on a case that’s very important to us.” Jay said.

“Very well, right this way. Now, what are the names your looking for?” The Morgue lady asked.

“I’m looking for, Amelia Fawn Humphries.” Jay said.

“Very well, and who’s the lady looking for?” The morgue lady asked.

“I’m looking for Phoenix Flare and Donn Avin.” I said.

“Very well, sir the body your looking for is in M2. All you have to do Is pull the handle out, then the body will roll on out for you.” The morgue lady said while looking at Jay, “As for you my lady, your looking for A6 and P1.”

“Thank you, Ma’am.” Jay and I said at the same time.

She bowed and left the room, I was so confused.

“That was weird, do you know why she did that?” Jay asked.

“I’ve got no idea, however, I would love to find out.” I said.

He continued examining the bodies, and I walked out to follow the morgue lady.

“Excuse me, morgue lady?!” I shouted.

She stopped and turned around.

“Yes? How may I be of service, ma’am?” The morgue lady asked.

“Why did you bow to me? Also why are you talking to me like I’m a royal?” I asked in response.

“That’s because you are royal, your highness.”

I was in shock, me royal? That’s impossible!

“What do you mean I’m royal?!”

Anger and shock laced my tone, as well as my expression.

“You are daughter of King Norel, you’re mother married into the royal life so she was a commoner, however, she became queen Celista.”

“That’s impossible! How do I know what your saying is even true?” I asked shocked.

“Because, I’m Celista’s sister.”

What in the world?!

“You can’t just tell me I’m a princess without any proof, can you prove I’m a princess?” I asked.

I felt bad for not believing her, but there’s no way I can possibly be a princess.

“I can prove it, however, it’s a matter if you want to take up the position. Everything is exactly the way you’re parents left it, except you’ll have the kingdom and it’ll be ruled over by a new system of government.”

“I don’t believe you, I’m not a princess and I never will be!”

I walked off.

Narrator: Denise started to hear static noises, and everything re-winded back into the room. Except, this time she didn’t follow the morgue lady, that way she could have a life that’s normal and isn’t fairy-tale like.

“That was strange, I wonder why she bowed to you.” Jay said.

“Your right, that was strange. However, I don’t have time to think about that. I have to figure out who killed my mother, and Donn.”

“You don’t have to stay and look you know, you can go talk to the morgue lady.” Jay said.

“What good would that do? Besides it’s a waste of time.”

I examined the bodies as we talked, and I noticed that they have something in common. They had a knife cut in their chest, not to mention had black veins sprouting from the wounds. I wonder if they were poisoned?

“You said your mother was also murdered, but you also said she abused you, so why do you still care about her?” I asked Jay.

“I never really stopped loving her, she had her good days and then she had her bad days, but she still provided a roof over our heads. She never really physically abused me, and she didn’t realize she was verbally abusing me but she never went too far. She’s still my mom, yeah I’ll admit I used to hate her, but in the end I just felt bad for her.” Jay said.

“In that case, there is something I need to check.”

He moved out of the way, and I checked for the black veins coming out of her chest. As a lucky find though, they were there on her body.

“That’s exactly what I thought, how are they all connected?” I mumbled.

“Mind sharing the information you just gathered?” Jay asked.

“All three of these victims, died the exact same way. There is only one weapon that could’ve caused these black veins to come out of their chests, and it’s called the Green Vapor.” I said.

The Green Vapor, I know it’s name and I know what it does, what I don’t know is what it looks like.
