Chapter 1: Welcome to the Chiefs Kingdom

They were there.... it had happened.... and the Kansas City Chiefs, who were then only 5-0 were back in the City of Fountains. They were fresh off of a 26-17 victory on the road against the Tennessee Titans, lying atop their division, conference, and the entire National Football League. But the best was yet to come. The 2013-2014 Chiefs would go on to be the most historic team in history.

As the following weeks came by, and their record increased from 5-0 to 6-0, 6-0 to 7-0, the Chiefs gained the respect of fans, players, and coaches of their opposing teams. A sense intimidation was felt in a team when they arrived at the football cathedral of Arrowhead Stadium, as for the remainder of the season, no team would win in the blistering cold of Kansas City but the Chiefs. One could also say that the Chiefs were as invincible on the road, where they rarely recorded a loss.

The season went down in history as one of the greatest ever, and became not just a legend; it became the Chiefs Saga!

Chapter 2: A Rivalry Renewed

To understand how the Chiefs did as well as they did, you would have to analyze every game.

The true craziness of the season started in week 6.

As week 5 concluded a week 6 came to a start, the Chiefs started preparing for their matchup with their arch rivals, the Oakland Raiders, in Kansas City. And come Sunday the 13th, they were ready for another gruesome battle.

As the fans packed the stands, Chiefs players were getting ready for war. They knew that a win would not be easy. But they had a large advantage: the fans that so often sold out games at Arrowhead Stadium were trying to break a record for loudest open air stadium in the world.   The game started, and from the first second of the first quarter, it was clear that the fans were giving their all, yelling at above 125 db peaks.

The game, however, was not so confident. Going into the second half, the Chiefs, who had been so dominant all the weeks before, were only tied with the sub-par Raiders.

Maybe it was something said in the locker room, but the Chiefs came into the 2nd half with a different motivation and drive than they did in the first half. They ended up scoring another 2 touchdowns, and kicking a field goal, scoring them an extra 17 points in the second half.   As for the Raiders, things weren’t so bright. The Chiefs fans, who broke the record at 137.7 db, caused the Raiders 10 penalties, held them scoreless in the second half.   The Chiefs ended up winning 24-7. They were now 6-0.

Chapter 3: Alone At Last

After a triumphant win against the Raiders, the Chiefs continued on in there practices, running drills, studying film, and doing the occasional scrimmage. By the so called “Red Friday” , which was the Friday before a home game in Kansas City, where they lit all the fountains in Kansas City red, the Chiefs were confident that they could walk onto the field, and tackle Arian Foster and the struggling Texans.

It was a relatively hot Sunday in Kansas City, where many games were played in single-digit weather, hitting highs of 75 degrees F. Fans packed the stands for what was predicted to be a blowout by the Chiefs.

But the prediction was not correct, as the Chiefs rarely led in the game. Even after star Houston running back, Arian Foster, was knocked out of the game with a hamstring injury, and the third string quarterback, Case Keenum, starting for Houston, Kansas City was only leading the game by one point headed into the 4th quarter.

But as always, the Chiefs put on there league leading shutdown defense, and won the game 17-16. The Chiefs would wait until the night to see if the Denver Broncos could win against the Indianapolis Colts, and keep their record lossless as well.

The night was over, and the Chiefs had only once been where they were, that fateful Sunday, as the Broncos had lost, and Kansas City had harnessed the top spot alone, at 7-0.
