Forged steel check valve

Chapter 1

The disc and plate come in constant contact. Therefore, there isn't any valve like forged steel check valve ‘chatter’, less mechanical wear and greater stability in the low end from the stroke. The constant contact produces a self-lapping and self-cleaning action. Jordan Valve sliding gate seats wear in – they don’t break.

Before the resilient seated gate valve was travelling to the market, gate valves which has a metal seated wedge were widespread. The conical wedge design and angular sealing devices of any metal seated wedge call for a depression inside valve bottom to make certain a tight closure. Herewith, sand and pebbles are embedded inside bore. The pipe system should never be completely free from impurities no matter how thoroughly the pipe is flushed upon installation or repair. Thus any metal wedge will ultimately lose its capability to be drop-tight.

A resilient seated gate valve includes a plain valve bottom allowing free passage for sand and pebbles from the check valve. If impurities pass as being the valve closes, the rubber surface will close throughout the impurities even though the valve is closed. A high-quality rubber compound is soft enough to absorb impurities, yet sufficiently strong enough to wash the impurities through once the valve is opened again. This means that the rubber surface will regain its original shape securing a drop-tight sealing.

Again, with all the difference between ball valves and gate valves being structural, gate valves operate differently from ball valves. They control flow using a gate, that may be lifted out in the way of fluid or any other materials. The gate could be round or rectangular. Operators control the valve typically by turning a knob to improve or lower the gate therefore, control flow.

Gate valves usually do not offer the same immediate disconnect capabilities of the ball valve, that is one from the main differences. However, they actually offer more finely tuned treatments for the flow of materials, and also over the pressure in the flow. There is no immediate shut off which has a gate valve, however in applications where that's not needed but a superior degree of control is, these are a better option over a ball valve. For example, in situations where there’s high water pressure potential, a gate valve can prevent a water hammer from forming.
