Prologue: Declan Is The Reason We Were(Almost) Late For Our Flight.

“Decs, what are you doing?” Cheri asked, peaking her head into the kitchen. Her younger brother was making breakfast, in his pajamas, not even in a rush. He looked at her with a bit of a smile,

“Making breakfast. Why?” He asked, working on the scrambled eggs in the pan. Cheri facepalmed, dragging her manicured hand down her face. He was always like this.

“Declan...I don't know how to break this to ya’, bro..but, we kind of have a flight to catch.” Cheri replied, pursing her lips. He looked back at his eggs, “Yeah, and?” he replied. Cheri grew frustrated, putting her hands on her hips.

“Declan! It’s in an hour! And it’s a thirty minute drive to the airport! We can grab breakfast on the way there!” She exclaimed. At that, Declan looked up, “An hour?”

“An hour.” Cheri replied. Declan took off his pajama pants and threw them at Cheri’s face. He turned off the stove and ran to his room to put on actual pants. Cheri shoved Declan’s pajama pants into her carry-on and grabbed Declan’s hand once his pants were on and pulled him out the door.Their parents were waiting for them in the big car and watched as the close siblings frantically climbed in, Cheri tugging on Declan’s sleeve. Their other siblings gathered outside and waved them goodbye, the youngest crying a bit as she watched them leave.

The drive to the airport was short lived, Cheri and Declan kissed their parents goodbye before heading into the airport to catch their flight. There was a nagging worry in Cheri’s mind about moving to Japan. She thought back on when they both got accepted into the exchange student program.

--

“Cheri, you can’t go to Japan with me.” Declan said, patting his sister on the head gently. Cheri looked up at him with a smirk,

“Who said I couldn’t?”“It’s an all-boy’s school, if I could bring you, I would.” He said, he glanced at his acceptance letter with warm eyes, “But really, Cheri-bomb, you can’t-” He was cut off my Cheri shoving an acceptance letter in his face.

“I’m going to Japan with you, Decs. I got accepted for the exchange student program at Iwatobi High.” She said, “I’ll be right there beside you throughout the entire thing.”

At her words, Declan’s entire face brightened and he grabbed her hands, “Really?” He asked. Cheri nodded and grinned. Declan wrapped his arms around her and lifted her up, capturing her in one of his bone-crushing hugs. They laughed.

“We have to tell mom and dad!” Declan said, putting Cheri down and grabbing her hand, encasing her small one in his and tugging her down to go tell their mom and dad about the amazing news.

“This is going to be so much fun!” Declan cried, pulling Cheri along.

--

Cheri didn’t realize how much time had passed during her reminiscence and sputtered as Declan dragged her on to the plane where they would start their trip and start a brand new life.

“This is going to be so much fun!” Declan said, turning to look at Cheri. She nodded and smiled, “Yeah.”
