FOREWORD

To every story theres a beginning and an end. It would be nice to just jump right in and start telling all the hows and whys. As I am writing this novel I am going to go deep into my mind. Pull out every detail that I can remember in hopes to help someone who might can relate. If one life can be touched, my purpose is served.

The beginning...

My mother grew up poor on the Indian reservation in Ontario, Canada. She came to live with her grandmother in Detroit in the early 70's. There she met a man who would eventually be my father. He was older and she worked for him. He was from Sicily. He owned party stores, and bakerys in Detroit. He was also married, to another woman. In traditional Sicilian culture, married couples only seperate, never divorce. He lived apart from his wife and the daughter they shared. My Mother dated my father for years before having me. My mom was told that she was not able to have children. In late 1976 mom thought she was coming down with the flu. After going to the  doctor she was told that she was pregnant with me, about 3 months already. This was not something that was either planned for or welcomed by my father. He told her that she should have me and give me to his sister who was not able to have children. He also threatened to take me away to Sicily if she was to have me and want to keep me. She of course did not listen to him and that was basically the end of their dating relationship.
