Daddy's Name Changed

Mommy and Daddy told me that sometimes people feel like they are born the wrong gender.

There are two sides to gender: Boy and Girl.

Boys have different things in their brains that make them look more masculine which means they typically grow more hair on their face, arms, and legs.

Girls have different things in their brains that make them look more feminine which means they typically have rounder parts like their chest and legs.

People can feel like either, somewhere in between, or bounce between looking or feeling like either a boy or a girl.

Some people feel like they are not a boy or a girl at all. Instead of he or she, they is what they go by.

Daddy feels like a girl on the inside; like me.

Being a boy on the outside made Daddy sad because Daddy's insides and outsides did not match so her brain got confused and hurt when she looked in the mirror and saw a boy and people called her "Sir."

So Daddy goes to a special doctor to help Daddy's insides and outsides match.

Daddy takes medicine to make some parts rounder and less hairy.

Sometimes Daddy or all of us go to a feelings doctor called a therapist to talk about how we feel and about how Daddy is changing.

It is important that feelings get check ups too!

I can tell being a girl makes Daddy happier.

Which makes Mommy happier, and me, and my sister and brother happier too.

Some people ask a lot of questions about Daddy.

Some people even get mad when they learn Daddy is a girl.

That's because they don't know or care about Daddy or our family.

Daddy's name changed from James to Jessica. Sometimes we call her Mama J.

That confuses people because they think Daddy is a completely different person.

But she is still my Daddy.

Jessica is just a prettier, happier Daddy, but she is still funny and smart and likes to play with us.

She still loves me, my brothers, and Mommy just the same.

And we love her even more!
