Chapter 1: Slumber Party

It was the last day of school. I just could not wait. One more class and I am free for a whole long summer vacation. Not only me, my best friends Trixie Wilson(a.k.a Trix) and Kaitlyn Moore (a.k.a Kate) were pretty excited too.

More than me and Trixie, Kaitlyn was the impatient one as she hated school and only wanted to have fun with friends.

That doesn’t mean me and Trixie were boring-nerds. Of course not! We were also fun but at the same time we were serious when it was study time or any other important stuff.

Anyways, I just kept staring at the clock. “Come on!” I mumbled.

Miss Helene, our science teacher, yelled in her irksome whiny voice,

“Miss. Jennifer Storms!”

I suddenly blinked my eyes and looked at her.

“Huh!?”

“If you are so eager for the summer holidays,” she raised an eyebrow, “Why don’t you start off now and leave the class?”

“Sorry Miss. Helene.” I apologized looking down.

“Pay attention!” she said, “Ok everyone, where were we?”

She never liked me. I have no idea why. I guess you always have that one teacher who hates you for no reason. Well, for me, it’s this one.

But she’s not important, what’s more important is that clock. It striked 3 p.m. Yes! School was finally over.

I quickly packed my back-pack and ran outside leaving the horrible torture room (classroom) to join my friends who were waiting for me in the corridor.

“It’s finally summer!” Kaitlyn exclaimed.

“Yes!” Trixie said, “I am so excited.”

“Me too.” I beamed.

We were walking our way home when suddenly Kate exclaimed.

“Hey! How about we have a slumber party?”

“Kate,” Trixie said, “Of course we will have tons of slumber parties this summer.”

“No you idiot!” Kate said, “How about we have a slumber party tonight?”

Trix and I exchanged glances.

“Umm… okay.” I shrugged.

“Cool!” Trix exclaimed.

“Brilliant! So, my house 7 o’clock?” Kate suggested.

“Done.” We agreed.

“See you!” Kate said walking towards her house, “Be there on time. And Jenny, don’t you dare come late as you usually do, alright?”

“Don’t worry.” I sniggered, “I’ll be there. Bye!”

After a while I reached home.

“Mum! I’m home!” I exclaimed with great joy.

“Look whose home, Miss smarty pants.” Samuel, my younger brother taunted.

Samuel Storms (a.k.a Sam) was my naughty 10 year old brother. He was so stupid and impish! Every little brother or sister is annoying. Thank goodness I don’t have more siblings, one is enough to handle.

“Sam!” I yelled, “Look, I am not in the mood of wasting my precious time on you. I am free for a whole summer and you are not, and by ‘not’, I mean NOT! going to destroy it. Got it? You little maniac!”

“Fine. Whatever you say.” he shrugged.

“Ooh…. Kaayy.”, I said warily, “Now where is mum?”

“In the kitchen.” he said pointing towards the kitchen door and went back to read his dumb book.

I knew he was up to something, so I gave him a glare. I threw my back-pack on the couch and ran into the kitchen. I hugged my mum from behind as she was chopping vegetables.

“Welcome home.” She smiled.

“Mum! I hope you know that-”

The smell of sizzling chicken in the air stopped me and my mouth started watering.

“Something special?”

She turned around and said,

“It’s your summer holidays, right sweety? So I thought why not start with your favourite dish.”

“OMG! This just makes it better. Love you mum!” I exclaimed placing a soft kiss on her cheek.

She winked at me and said, “I know that! Now go and freshen up, then come down for lunch. Ok?”

I nodded.

My mother’s name was Trisha Storms. She was a professor in the ‘Kingston University-London’. Right now she had her summer break.

We were more like friends than mother-daughter. That’s the best thing about us! We shared almost everything with each other and I loved her very much.

As I picked up my back-pack, I remembered about our sleepover plans.

“Oh hey… mum?” I said.

“Yes ?”

“Can I go to Kate’s house this evening? We are having a slumber party tonight. I will be back by tommorow morning.” I explained.

“Tonight?” She asked.

“Yes.” I answered.

“What’s the hurry, dear? You and your friends can have loads of parties later. You have got the whole summer.” She said.

“I know mum, but Kate was so excited that she wanted one now. And I already agreed. Is there any problem?”

“No, no! I have no problem with that, you may go. But I was just saying, you know…” She trailed off.

“Yeah.” I chuckled, “But you know how she is, don’t you?”

“Fine, you may go. Have fun!” She smiled.

“Thanks mum!” I smiled as I headed upstairs to my room.

“Mum?” I heard a sweet voice call. I turned around to find that little imp trying to look as cute as possible. I knew he was up to something.

“Mummy!” he called again.

“Yes dear?” Mum asked.

“Jennifer wants me to come with her.” he said.

“What?” I almost yelled in amazement.

“Yes, you told me that when you entered the house now didn’t you?”

“No! No I didn’t!” I denied, “You little liar!”

“Oh yes you did!” he looked at me with an evil smirk plastered on his stupid cute face.

“Oh really?” Mum asked.

“Yes.”

“No!”

“Mum! Can I go? Please!” he pleaded.

“No!” I quickly rejected.

“Why of course sugar!” she laughed.

“Mum?!” I said looking at her in shock.

She chuckled before speaking.

“Just kidding dear, he’s not going anywhere!”

“Phew!” I heaved a sigh of relief.

Sam pouted. His dumb plan didn’t work. Hah! I smirked at him.

“Come up with something better next time, idiot.” I teased him.

He glared at me and ran upstairs to his room as I chortled.

What a funny little chap. Though he was so annoying and stupid, he would always be my sweet, innocent brother.

The relationship between siblings is so strange and amusing. It’s like- I can fight with my siblings, tease them and do whatever I want but if you hurt them, you will have to face me!

I quickly freshened up and came downstairs for lunch.

I saw my entire family seated on the dinner table.

“Hey dad!” I exclaimed.

“Hello love. Happy summer holidays!” He said with a smile.

My dad, Jonathan Storms, was a travel agent.

“Thanks! By the way, when did you come home?” I asked while taking a seat.

“Just a few minutes later than you.” He replied.

I nodded and smiled.

My dad and I had a very close relationship. You know, daddy’s little girl! He was always on my side. He supported me everytime, even when mom used to go against me. He was the best.

After having our lunch, I ran upstairs and started getting ready for the slumber party. Mum entered the room.

She saw me messing up with my wardrobe and raised a question,

“Dear, what are you doing?”

“Getting ready for the sleepover mum, remember?”

“Oh yes!” she said, “When are you going?”

“I have to be there by seven.” I replied.

“Seven? But it’s only 5 o’clock right now sweetheart. Kate’s house is just two blocks away. Why are you packing up already?” she inquired.

I smiled at her.

“Mum! We are girls, we have to get ready hours before.”

“Right.” She grinned.

I smiled and continued my work.

Once I had finished packing, I had a quick shower and dressed up in my favourite pyjamas.

I glanced at the clock, 7:00.

“Oh god.” I gasped and quickly grabbed my bag.

“Bye mom!” I yelled running downstairs.

“Bye! Take care, be good and come back home safely.” she said.

“Don’t worry!” I chuckled before closing the door.

I reached Kate’s house in about five minutes.

Thank God!
