Chapter 1

I had the most exquisite dream. My best friend had convinced me to go to the lake with him. I knew from the start that this was all a dream, but it felt so real. I knew that it was my time: an unnatural force was calling to me. I couldn't explain what it was or why I was feeling this but every bone in my body said "just jump already". Axel, my best friend, was talking to me, but his words weren't registering with me. I knew he was talking but I just couldn't hear what he was saying. I just kept walking down the dock. With every step it seemed the dock got thinner and thinner until it became a tightrope. I held my arms out to my sides to maintain my balance. Each step made me more impatient as I was waiting for the rope, and my life, to end. But each step added a mile to the rope. I could feel my bones aching, my heart aching, longing for release from this world. I finally gave up, let go, and let my body sink into the water like a stone. I didn't put up a fight. I just let the calming waves wash over me. I let my eyes begin to droop shut, but i caught a glimpse of Axel's hand reaching for me. My mind was shouting "reach for him" and my heart was shouting the opposite. Even if I tried to reach for him, I just couldn't. Death had already taken me. I was just a floating carcass. Lifeless and emotionless. It was a peaceful death. I felt serene and at ease until the incessant beeping of my ancient alarm clock shook me from my slumber. I sat up in a cold sweat, reaching over to silence it. I groaned under my breath and turned onto my side. I opened one eye and peered through the hole in my blinds. I sighed quietly as I watched the tiny droplets of rain hit the vinyl seats of my car through the sun roof i forgot to close last night. I rolled my eyes and mumbled to myself "what a perfect start to the day". I turned and put my feet onto the floor and stretched my arms into the air, letting off a guttural type of groan, setting my usual morning routine into motion.

Chapter 2

As I stepped out of the shower, I gave my hair a quick towel dry and went over the details of my dream. I closed my eyes and envisioned it for a second - the calming blue waves washing over me as i fell into a tranquil, eventually lifeless state. I continued to dry myself off slowly. Once I felt dry enough, I tossed the now slightly damp towel into the hamper and walked back to my room. Noticing my bedroom door was cracked, I looked down to see the wet footprints of Axel's shoes leading up to the door. I peered in and saw him laying on his back, holding my phone over his face, scrolling through my messages. "Find anything interesting yet?" I asked with a sarcastic upward inflection in my voice. He sat up and scanned my naked body, shrugged and laid back down to continue scrolling. "Nahh but you might wanna get dressed, I think 'go to school naked' day is next week." I let out a dry chuckle as I walked to my dresser and opened the top drawer, pulling a random pair of boxers out. I step into them and reach back into my top drawer for a tank top and pair of socks. Once I had all of my undergarments on, I walked over to the bed and flopped down next to Axel. I curled into a ball and laid my head on his chest. Without a word he draped his arm over me, pulling me close. "How'd you die in this one?" He asked without looking up from my phone. "I drowned. You tried to reach in and save me but every time you got close...I drifted further from you." I sighed quietly to myself as i began to trace the pattern on his shirt. "Awe that sucks." He leaned down and planted a light kiss to my damp hair. I shook my head and sat up. "It was peaceful, though. I felt at ease. It was kind of nice." After these words, I got up and went to my closet and grabbed a random outfit. I like to able to get ready quickly so I have all my outfits hung up together for easier access. As I was getting dressed, Axel looked over and turned over onto his stomach to reach under my bed and get my shoebox with my black Vans in it. He slid the box over to me. I kicked it open and slid my feet into them. I then walked over to him and took my phone from him. I reached into my pillowcase and grabbed my earbuds and slid them into my pocket. I grabbed my bookbag from behind my bed and made sure my portable charger was in there. Once I made sure i had everything, I slung my bookbag over one shoulder and started walking towards the front door, Axel following suit. Once we both reached the front door, I turned and asked him "Ok which car, mine or yours?" He shrugged as we walked out the door. I rolled my eyes as I noticed he had my blocked in. He went and started his car as I got into mine to close my sunroof to keep my car from getting more damage than it needed. I closed the door and locked the car and hurriedly made my way to the passenger side of his car. "Get in, loser, we're already 20 minutes late." He said as he flashed his perfectly playful smile. I jumped in and before I could even close the door, he was already pulling out of my driveway, booking it down the street. He's gonna get himself killed one day if he keeps driving like this
