Introduction

For the past 100,000 years, in a galaxy very far away, the Great Dragon Lords have ruled over a system of worlds known as the Dragon Realms, and harmony has long been the benchmark of their civilization. From their great Citadel, the Dragon Lords have long worked with all the other species in their realms to ensure that the Magic that binds all living things is allowed to flow freely, and they seek actively to maintain the delicate balance that allows all beings to thrive.

Emissaries from the Dragon Realms first visited our world some 7,500 years ago, establishing first contact with various cultures around the globe. Their influence can be seen in our ancient mythology, architecture, and philosophy, and the teachings of the Dragons have shaped our development.

During this time, the Wild Cats were the Keepers of the Magic in the Great Dragon Realms, while the Hounds were the guardians of the young Dragons. Together, these three species, Dragon, Cat, and Hound, formed a symbiotic core upon which the Dragon Realms stood, together, they sustained the balance for all.

Then, the TechNation attacked.  The Techs believed that Magic was elitist, and as such, the Cats were their first target. Without warning, the dread TechnoRats descended upon the ancestral home of the Cats, and before help could arrive, vast numbers of the Cats were obliterated, and with them a great force of Magic in the universe.

The Techs then turned their terrible armies against The Citadel, the ancient Dragon stronghold, and with unimaginable swiftness, breached the outer defences. With their chances of survival dropping by the day, a small group of Cats was tasked by the Emperor himself to flee the HomeWorld with the youngest Prince. He beseeched them to find a place, outside the Dragon Realms, where they might begin rebuilding the Magic, and in time, restore harmony to all the realms.

This story follows that group of Cats, and their close allies, the Hounds and the Dragons, on their journey across the universe, to their ultimate arrival on Earth. It also tells what the Cats, and their comrades, found when they arrived on our planet, how they ended up on a little dune island located just north of Prince Edward Island, and how they have changed our world.

If you've ever met a truly extraordinary cat or dog, and wondered if there was more to them then meets the eye, you were right.

It's time for the truth to be known. Let the Magic begin.

Chapter 1: Charlie's Dream

Charlie had been having the same dream for as long as she could remember. It always started with the memory of the first time she actually met the young prince. She had been summoned to the Citadel, and when she arrived, it was like nothing she had ever seen. She had heard the home of the dragons was extraordinary, but that was a profound understatement. It was lush and incredibly intense, the colours seeming to vibrate right before your eyes. There was also a deep sense of peace and harmony, as though the outside world did not exist.

Then the dream would jump ahead to the moment that she actually met the young prince. When she looked at him, she was overwhelmed with love, though she had no idea why. It was as though some long buried instinct kicked in, and she felt compelled to protect him at all costs. Even in the dream she could feel the pull of the prince upon her, and it always took her breath away.

And then the dream would turn dark. Charlie could hear the old dragon shouting at her to go, to take the prince, to hide him. She could see the Citadel being destroyed, and the dead lying all around her.  She could smell the fires, and hear the screams, and she felt paralyzed. Then, she could feel herself grabbing the prince and fleeing.

These parts of the dreams made sense, for Charlie had lived through them. It was the final part that made no sense to her at all. In that part of the dream, she was also in the midst of what had clearly been a terrible battle, but she didn't recognize where she was. Clearly this was some world she had yet to visit for everything seemed alien.

In the dream, she was sitting on the ground, filthy, bleeding, desperately clutching a small creature, while a holographic image loomed above her. She couldn't quite make out the image, but she would never forget the voice. It was shrill, and bitter, full of self importance, and when it spoke, it gloated and sneered, and the sound of it terrified Charlie. Even now, she could still hear it.

"You were foolish to put your faith in these beings. They are weak, corrupt. They were never worthy of the honour you wished to bestow upon them."

Charlie could hear herself pleading for mercy, and then all she heard was the cruel laughter coming from the image, followed by a very bright light.

That was point at which she awoke every time, and it troubled her. Was the dream a warning or her destiny?
