Chapter 1

The second that my parent's car turned the corner of our drive, I think, it was safe to say that my sixteen year old adopted brother, Zachary,  was completely mad.

It started when I was at the table, eating cereal for dinner. Zac was walking in circles.

"Mustn't be late, mustn't be late," it was like a chant.

"Zac, what are you going on about?" I ask.

"I'm trying to figure out were I put my watch!" He announced, banging a fist on the table.

"Umm... Okay."

"Do you know what the time is?" He asks, I look at the clock right behind me.

"Zac, there's a clock right there."

"Well it's not a very wonderful clock is it?" He snaps.

I suppose he's right. It's one of those five dollar clocks from the super market.

"It doesn't even have the right time!"

"Yes it does, five past six."

"It may be five past six here but not there."

"Where?" I ask.

"No where," he replies.

"Huh?"

"Anyway there is no time to spare, grab your chair, throw it over there, get in something decent to wear."

"Are you telling me to go to bed?'' I ask, "Your not the boss of me!"

"Don't worry you don't have to go to bed yet. It's only five past six!"

"I thought you said it wasn't five past six!"

"Well it is here, but not over there!"

"Where?"

"Exactly."

This whole conversation was confusing me so much.

"Zac are you going crazy."

"No time for craziness!" Zac says, "We've got to get you over there."

"Where?"

Zac grabs me and carries me over to the front door.

"ZAC!" I scream out in frustration. He opens the door throws me out, he chucks a brief case out with me.

"You'll need it!" He shouts, "Oh and don't forget, be there by one o' clock!"

Then the door slams shut in my face. I shiver in the rain.

Click.

Did Zac just lock the door? I try the handle, it's locked. I sit on the steps. What is going on?

I pick up the brief case, and press it open.

A light blue frilly dress comes out, landing on the dripping wet steps.

I pick it up and hold it out, keeping the brief case locked into my elbow so it doesn't fall down, it's very uncomfortable and hard to hold, it almost slips out of my grip and I catch it with my left hand. Then a golden pocket watch drops out, it bounces down the two steps, then it the glass cracks. The watch tells the time of 12:30. Interesting.
