Chapter 1

It was the same every morning, she would clock in and he would have already been there for two hours. Boxes would be piled up around him and he would be humming that same appallingly sappy love song. Rolling her eyes she would proceed to the backroom where her work was laid out before her in its usual chaotic heap.  Amongst her work she would almost forget about the object of her disdain. Then he would break her concentration as he came trundling in past her with his trolley of product yet to be shelved. The tune would skip momentarily as he muttered a sleepy hello and give her the usual half assed smile.  She would say hello back in a tone that would hint at her annoyance but his grin would only grow with the newfound challenge.  Work would continue in the same agonizingly slow way and glances to the clock would be stolen.  He would continue to annoy her with his idle chit chat and stupid jokes in attempt to get her to smile. Yet the frown remained in place until the final minute ticked past and his small goodbye chimed out amongst the crowd of customers. She would reply curtly and follow him with her eyes as he made his exit. Once out of sight her body would relax and she would let out a breath she didn’t realize that she was holding.  With a hand upon her chin she would think about the day and their strange interaction. A small smile would cross her lips as she mulled over one of his funnier jokes, or when she thought about the way his steel grey eyes lit up when she would make a sarcastic remark. Yes, this boy annoyed her to no end but she wouldn’t know what to feel if he wasn’t there to do so.
