To everyone who still remembers their first love - unrequited or reciprocated, short lived or long lasting, ending in heartbreak or happily ever after.
If Love Was a Flower
If love was a flower,
Our love started out as a tiny seed
Deep inside my heart.
Everyday I nurtured it until one day
The bud burst through my ribcage
And blossomed in my chest.
Even though I work hard to make our flower grow,
I am scared that one day
You will rip the flower out of my chest
And trample it on the ground
Like it was a common weed.
Fake laughter and forged happiness
To hide the darkness swallowing me
A sliver of light begins to shine through
It must be hope radiating from you
You say you love me, but if that's true
Where were you when I needed you most?
When I cried every night for a week?
When I couldn't even gather the will power
To get out of bed in the morning?
You say you love me, but don't bother to help.
But you don't have to worry about me
Because when the darkness is done with me,
It will go after you.
