courage

the first time i saw you, we were in an english lecture. you were laughing, and it sounded like fireflies in the night. like the sunlight sliding between my ribs, clean as a knife. it took me months to talk to you. months. every time i considered it my tongue curled in on itself and my stomach tap danced out of my body.

see – the first time i touched your face, it took me ten tries. my hand held its own earthquake, but you turned into it and smiled at me.
