Chapter One

It was November first. The first day of NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. The skies were a clear grey, and candy wrappers from the previous night littered the streets as testament to the holiday before. A fog horn echoed mournfully in the distance, as a young lady sat before her computer, ready to write her novel. She had it all planned out. She had written down character sheets, and had a time line. She would not fail this year.

She opened the word program, and began to type;
The skies were red, the color of the gods blood, they had been fighting the night before, thunder rumbled and lightning from their swords struck the earth. The inhabitants of the earth had hidden in their huts, bundled in furs, praying for the gods to stop.

Expect for one. A young man, who had the given name Eric, darted through the woods, brown hair messily concealing clear grey eyes. He had grown up on the tales of the gods, and had learned their lineage, and their realms, and their customs. And he had a questioning mind, which forced him to challenge the existence of the gods.
“He had resolved to find them, and to join them, and to share their knowledge with his people. And so he had left his home, and his parents, and gone searching for the answer to the gods.”

The girl paused her typing, and ran her hand through her hair, thinking of the proper wording for the next sentence. When her thoughtfulness was shattered by a shout.
“Alena! Mail!” Her mother's voice echoed.

Alright! I'll get it.” Alena quickly shrugged on a warm Peabody jacket, pulled on her boots, and pocketed the mail box key. She began trekking down the the road to the mail box, to gather what would most likely be a horrid collection of holiday catalogs, announcing the season. She hummed slightly as she went along, her mind in a far off land...
Eric ducked under a tall pine tree, hiding under the boughs for shelter from the rain. He shivered slightly as a breeze wrapped itself around him, whispering incomprehensible sayings.”
A car horn loudly blasted and Alena jumped back into reality, her eyes wide as a white car swerved around her.
