A Song To Remember

Happy Birthday

You’re walking through a dark cave. It’s wet everywhere, but you don’t care. You’re just searching for one spot and- there it is. The small room behind the waterfall. Alphys used to have a camera installed here, but after you saved the underground, she just didn’t need them anymore. She took them with her to the surface when she moved. Actually, everyone moved up to the surface when you broke the barrier, which left the entirety of The Underground for the taking. But most humans thought the place was haunted or something. Whatever, just meant the place was yours. Which is why you chose to stay under. Unlike the monsters, you hated the surface.

They discriminate, you wouldn’t be surprised if the monsters moved back down here within a month. You sat in the hole behind the waterfall, watching the entrance, waiting. Then he comes. That beautiful specter you spied a little over a year ago. His metallic frame that Alphy made him wisps through the water as he enters the room, the glowing crystals and echo flowers illuminating his magnificent frame. You jump up and hug the shy guy, thankful Mettaton suggested he get a solid body.

“You getting along in your new body? Is it too uncomfortable? I’m sure Alphys wou-,“ He cuts you off with a soft kiss, most would think it unimaginable with him being a possessed robot, but thanks to magic, it feels real.

“The body is fine (y/n), it lets me hold you like I’ve always wanted.” His smile melts your heart as he holds your short frame. You move away and fish out the small blue and silver gift wrapped box from behind the large rock that’s shaped just like a seat, handing over to him with a giddy smile. You’re rocking on your feet in the beautiful knee-length dark blue sparkling dress from his clothing store made especially for you for your birthday a week ago.

“What’s this?” He takes the box and looks at you, as if you’re going to answer. After a minute he gives in to curiosity and lifts the top of the box, being careful of the very difficult to tie red ribbon bow on it. Inside is a single CD, it seems to glow in the faint light of the stone stars. You pick up his old CD player from the same hiding place, handing to him. By now, you’re sure he’s confused, but he takes it and places the CD inside, popping in the earbuds to listen.

His face lights up as the first song you ever made starts playing. The song you made for him a year ago, when you first started dating him. His smile shines brighter than the sun on the surface and rains warmth throughout your body as he pulls you into a heartfelt hug. Swaying to the song playing in his ears only, you two danced slowly in silence in the cave behind the waterfall on your first anniversary. The perfect moment sure to be followed by many more perfect moments.

“I love you (y/n),” the whisper in your ear sends chills down your spine just like your first kiss with him. You look up at him, press your lips to his softly, and whisper back, “I love you too Blooky <3.”
