Eileen McILwain was born in Singapore on the 8th of December 1983. When she was two years old her family moved to Australia where she has lived ever since. She currently lives with her husband in Sydney, New South Wales.
Eileen grew up on the Northern Beaches peninsula, a heady mixture of beaches and bushland. She developed a passion for literature at an early age when her father started reading her bedtime stories. By age three she could recite the story of Little Red Riding Hood off by heart just by looking at the pictures, surprising quite a few people who didn't realise that she was telling the story from memory. As she grew older the stories changed from children's tales to adventure novels. Narnia was an all time favourite, as were the tales of heroism throughout Greek mythology.
Commencing her studies at The Pittwater House Schools, Eileen showed a real talent for creative writing. She often received praise from her teachers for her imagination and story-telling abilities. At age eleven her hobbies expanded to include horse-riding, another passion that has stayed with her into her adult life.
Eileen started working on her first young adult novel when she was in her early twenties. There was no defining moment that sparked the beginning of the story - it was just an idea forming in the back of her mind. The idea refused to go away until Eileen put her fingers to the keyboard and began to write. And so her first Young Adult Urban Fantasy titled CRESCENT was born.
Eileen is currently working on a new Young Adult Science Fiction titled SALACIA.
