Adagio, Concerto
Adagio, Concerto
the doctor and the captain enter into the great cabin
smiling wider than the endless horizon
heartily, big hands do seize their cloths
take hold of glitt’ring amber jeweled rosin
paint their bows with musical white powder
golden rays of light pierce through arched blue windows
softly glowing candles
wax drips into white mountains on the floor
oil lanterns of wrought iron faintly glow
flowing white sleeves float upon the air
cravats cascade down fronts of crisp, clean vests
hastily run-through scales and their arpeggios
smoothly, gently sloping chestnut maple
brown-flecked bridges formed of pale spruce
long and gleaming ebony fingerboards
matching pegs are staring, iridescent eyes
dancing, dexterous fingers leaping expertly about
first notes warm, hummed humbly ‘pon a ‘cello
soon joined by smooth, soon-trilling violin
ne’er a dancing tune, the steward oft complains
clear cerulean notes so shrilly sung
sparks of hot orange amber spring, contrast
crystalline deep blue which surrounds all
ribbons of eggplant swirling with the Navy
two voices join together, sing up to the heavens
pause
strings let fly, surging full ahead
sailing ever on, a spotless sea
