Gildirith

I literally made Gil as having made the journey bc I wasn't sure and was like "whatever that definitely counts"

Gil was born near the end of the Years of the Trees in Valinor. probably in Tirion. her father was a noldorin jewelsmith and her mother a vanyarin spearwoman, and they were sworn under the house of Finarfin. when she was still young, but technically an adult, the Trees were destroyed and her family joined in the Flight of the Noldor. she did not actively participate in the first kinslaying, but only because they were in the last group to arrive and the fighting did not reach them. when the option to return was presented, her father in particular wanted to return but felt he couldn't because of his oath. he'd sworn to serve the family and if they were leaving... and so, Gil told her parents to go back with Finarfin, and she would keep the oath and follow his children. besides, she'd lifted a spear against the Falmari, even if she hadn't used it. and she wanted to see middle-earth. so, her parents turned back, and she went on.

Also, for reference, Gildirith is her epessë and she didn't have it yet. so she mostly went by Laurevandë/Glorwaedh (her father-name) at this point. The crossing of the Helcaraxë was very rough on Gil. It was long, and painful, and more than a few elves died along the way. She has hated the cold and ice since. They were attacked as soon as they arrived in Beleriand, but Gil fought and survived the battle of the Lammoth. After that... she mostly followed Finrod around. though she would occasionally travel and essentially visit with others of the Arafinwëans for a few years at a time, once Nargothrond was constructed she mostly lived there. the named people from there might not have been super familiar with her but would have known her name. she fought in the Dagor Aglareb, and later in the Dagor Bragollach, where she was part of Finrod's company pinned down in the Fen of Serech and rescued by Barahir. She was wounded in that battle, though not especially badly. Shortly afterwards, Finrod joined Beren's quest for the silmaril and never returned. Gil did not go with him, and this is one of the things she's never forgiven herself for. it happened very fast, but...

Anyway, Orodreth was still there. (As far as I'm concerned, Orodreth was Finarfin's son and Gil-galad's father.) Like most of the elves from Nargothrond, she did not go to fight in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. When that ended in disaster, she went to the Havens of the Falas to help the refugees heading there and protect Gil-galad, who was staying there with Círdan. Of course, the next year the Falas were attacked and destroyed by Morgoth. She helped defend the retreat onto the ships and was the last to make it on board, wounded very badly. Círdan gave her her epessë after that--Gildirith, star of vigilance. She stayed with them on the isle of Balar after that. by the time she might have thought of returning to Nargothrond, things had started to get weird there, and then. then it was destroyed, Orodreth and Finduilas and the rest were dead or taken, and she hadn't been there. another thing she'd never forgive herself for.

After that things went pretty quickly. Gondolin fell and Gil-galad became High King. They arrived too late to help with the third kinslaying. Morgoth gained power, and then... then the Host of the Valar came. including Gil's mom. She cried a lot. Found out she had two or three younger siblings, and that her family had been all right. when Morgoth was cast out, and Beleriand was destroyed, she was told she could return to Valinor if she wanted. it was difficult, but she decided "not yet". she still had an oath to fulfill, and she didn't want to leave again. so she gave her mom letters for her father and siblings and went to Lindon with Gil-galad.

The Second Age was pretty peaceful for her. she got to know some of the Edain Finrod had loved, and she learned from Círdan, and it was good. During the war of the Elves and Sauron, she was sent in Elrond's army and thus fought there, and was also there when Imladris was founded. There was peace again afterwards, and she traveled sometimes, visiting Rivendell and Lórien and probably the Greenwood once or twice. she was happy, and sent letters to her family when ships left for the West.

then Númenor fell, and Sauron established himself in Mordor, and with Gil-galad and Elrond and so many others Gildirith marched in the Last Alliance. and alone in the fighting before the Black Gates the Witch-King ran her through. it took her a long, long time to recover from that.

and, well. you know the rest.

THERE WE ARE. LORE DUMP. YOU ASKED FOR IT

Gil will answer specific questions, and she's pretty open about having been loyal to Gil-galad/from Nargothrond. the coma comes up by necessity too. as for the rest... she'll tell little stories she thinks are relevant. but she's unlikely to talk much about the harder stories unless she's having a hard night and has gotten to know you really well. Nav is the only one who might know she's actually been to Valinor, and that's only if he knew from being acquainted before. Just because she hasn't discussed it.

to the elves it's obvious she has vanyarin ancestry but that doesn't mean anything for sure
