Chapter 1: Nice Butt

Hi I'm Jaden, but everyone calls me Jade, even my brothers and my parents.

I know Jaden is a boy's name, don't blame me but blame my parents. I don't really care though, i kind of like it.

I grew up with 2 older brothers and 1 twin brother and no dad, just a mom.

No, it's not what you think. My dad is not dead, he has been deployed to I guess it was Afghanistan.

Yes, he works in the army and I'm so proud of him - he's my hero.

So, I grew up with two older brothers and a twin brother:

James, he's in 21, he's in college and isn't home most of the time.

Jody, he's 18, just graduated and got a full scholarship to UCLA and isn't home very often also.

and there's Joey, he's 17 just like me. We are twins but we don't even look like each other, although everytime we're together in the hallways of school or something people always tell us we are like identical.

Well, I'm into boxing and my brothers are all into football. Joey is the quarterback of our school, Edison High.

We live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Well yea I guess that was all I needed to say.

I groan as our dog Jack starts licking my cheek, "Jack stop please," I start pushing him off my bed as I turn around to grab my phone.

I scroll a bit through my social media and Snapchat my best friend, er I mean ex best friend, Delano Johnson.

Delano and I have been best friends ever since pre-school, but when we both started high school we grew apart I guess. Now we are the school's entertainment. We are now supposed to hate each other, though it's just an act to me. But I guess it isn't just an act to Delano.

Delano is part of the school's football team and I'm just an ordinary girl. Delano has a girlfriend, Alison, not that I could ever compete with her or something.

I don't know how it could ever escalate to this, like everytime we see each other in the hallways or the cafeteria we argue, call each other names and embarrass each other.

It just happened, I'm not even that popular to ever be the school's entertainment together with Delano. Delano is all popular and stuff and there's me, an ordinary girl who's a boxer. Nobody knows about the boxing except my family, and I like to keep it that way.

Everything that happens between me and Delano or everything that happens to me or Delano, the whole school know about it in just a split second. Everything spreads like a wildfire if it happens to have me and or Delano involved.

"Jade hurry up! I'm taking you to school today," I hear Joey yell from downstairs.

"Yea, on my way!" I yell back as I slowly get out of bed and slowly walk into the bathroom which is connected to my bedroom.

I don't brush my hair because it's wavy and I don't want it to explode in any way, so I just put it in a side braid and put on some mascara and I'm ready to go.

I'm not that into make-up, I don't care what people may say about how I look.

I change into some pair of leggings and the schools sweater and take a sprint downstairs.

"Yo Joey," I jump on the counter, "So what did you make me for breakfast?" he shrugs and walks into the living room to eat his breakfast on the couch.

"Joey!" I pout.

"I didn't make you breakfast, I made you that stupid smoothie you asked me to make for you in the morning." His eyes not coming off his phone screen.

I squeal, "you really made that ?" I can't believe he really did something I asked him to do.

"Yea why are you so surprised?" still not looking from his phone.

"Because you are you," I say as a matter of fact.

"Yeah you're right." he chuckles.

I open the fridge and take out the smoothie he made me and drink it as I sit back down on the counter.

My mom walks into the kitchen and when she sees me she rolls her eyes to me.

"Goodmorning to you too mom!" I say happily and smile bright, taking a sip of my smoothie.

"Jaden Helena Jackson," this time it's my turn to roll my eyes.

"Don't call me Jaden, thank you a lot." I jump of the counter and walk towards the front door.

"Are you coming Jo?" I yell and put on my old black Doc Martens.

"Don't yell, I'm right here." Joey sighs dramatically deep and finally he comes walking into the hall.

"Finally, now hurry up," I yell.

"Jeez, be patient," He scoffs before putting on his converse.

"I can't, come one I need to talk to Imogen," He rolls his eyes and we walk towards his car, a black SUV.

"Yes!" I jump up and down on the passenger's seat as Viva las Vegas by Elvis Presley starts playing on the radio.

"Jeez, Jade come on," He scoffs, "you really like Elvis?" he looks at me, surprised.

"Yes, what's wrong with that?" I slap his shoulder, he rolls his eyes.

"He's old," He says matter of factly what causes me to roll my eyes.

"Well if you don't like it, then why don't you turn it off?" I remark.

"Ugh, we're here, now shut up." He parks the car and I walk as fast I can towards the stairs in front of the school.

"Nice ass!" and someone slaps on my butt.

"What the he -" I stop my sentence as I see the boy who just slapped my butt, Delano. I should've seen that coming since I'm wearing leggings. I just roll my eyes and sit down on the stairs waiting for Imogen.

"So little Jade decided to wear leggings to school today," Delano sits down next to me.

"Not that I wear them, like, everyday," I say sarcastically and roll my eyes.

"You should wear jeans next time lady, your ass turns me on," He winks.

"Shut up asshole." I scoff, he backs away.

"Don't be so rude we both know you like me," He winks again and I snort.

"Get over yourself." I roll my eyes and stand up to hug Imogen who just arrived.

"Well, see you later nice butt!" he recalls as I walk into the school with my arms intertwined with Imogen's arms.

"What was that about?" Imogen opens her locker.

"Nothing, just Delano being an asshole," I lean against the lockers.

"So nothing new?" Imogen says and takes all her books for the first 2 periods.

"No nothing new, so how are you, after what happened with 'you know who I mean'?" I ask, looking at the my shoes - scared for her reaction.

She and Luke -her ex-boyfriend now -just broke up after being in a relationship 2,5 years, he cheated on her with Alison's best friend so it was probably just some sick trick of Delano.

"I'm fine actually, I ate a lot of chocolate and ice cream so," I let out a little chuckle as I open my locker.

"Jeez, I have Art History and P.E. please kill me," I joke.

"Don't joke about that," She whispers and I say apologize quickly.

"I'm sorry Imogen, I should not joke about that." She nods in agreement.

The bell rings, saving me from a lecture from Imogen about that you should not joke about suicide, self-harm, murder, killing someone - kind of the same as murder, - rape and racism.

"Well see ya at lunch!" I wave Imogen goodbye as I run to my class.

"Jaden Jackson?" Mr. Young says as he reads the absence list.

"It's Jade," I correct him and he sighs, "Oh God, here we go again."

He sighs again before nodding, "Jade Jackson?" I raise my hand and say 'yes' and he continues reading the absence list.

Almost everyone is absent except Johnson, how come? - note the sarcasm.

I start doodling in my notebook, not even hearing a word of what Mr. Young says, until I hear the door open and a few sighs from classmates.

"So Mr. Johnson, why are you," he stops for a second to look on the clock on the wall, "20 minutes late?"

Johnson shrugs and sits down somewhere in front.

"Ok, I'll see you in detention after school." Delano wants to protest but probably decided against it.

"So, how P.E.?" Imogen takes a bite of her ham wrap, I just stare at her food.

Imogen snaps her fingers in front of my face.

"I've been awoken," I say magically, doing spirit fingers.

"Finally," she rolls her eyes.

"So how was P.E.?" she asks another time, "boring, as usual." I keep staring at her wrap.

"You want a bite?" she hands me the wrap as I take a bite.

"This is delicious!" I say loudly.

"Don't be so loud please," I roll my eyes at her and hand the wrap back to Imogen.

"Wanna come over to my house tonight?" I nod and take my phone, reading a few texts and replying to a few.

"Shit, I can't tonight," I say suddenly.

"Why not?" She looks up from her phone.

"Yeah, have to help Joey with Biology," I'm the best in making up lies.

"Er, okay, tomorrow?"

"Sure."

"Mom, I'm off to the gym!" I yell through the house.

"Yeah, bye!" Mom yells back from upstairs.

"Bye Joey," I grab a protein bar, Joey's car keys, say I'm borrowing his car and before he can protest

I'm already out of the house. I place my boxing gloves on the passenger's seat and turn up the volume of the radio, I start sing along with the songs until I'm at the gym.

"Jade, there you are!" before I know I'm tackled into a hug.

"Hi coach," I smile up to Coach Davis.

"We missed you Jade," he says.

"Of course," I shrug as I put on my black gloves.

I'm the only girl and the only one with black gloves in the gym full of boys, ironic isn't it.

"So I wanted to practice punching with you," I nod and follow Coach Davis to the hall.

Chapter 2: A Loyal Player?

» J A D E

"Jade, you can win from him!" Jason cheers loudly.

"Don't you dare lose from a girl, Logan!" someone else cheers on the opposite side of the ring.

"You can do this, I believe in you," Jason whispers in my ear.

"It's so hot in hear, jeez," I start hyperventilating, "Calm down Jade, ju... er..." he looks around, "Are you wearing a sportsbra underneath that tanktop?" he asks and I roll my eyes.

"I'll take that as a yes, just take off your thanktop," he smirks.

I nod and pull my tanktop over my head and throw it in his direction.

"Perv," I chuckle.

I hear a few saying 'woah' and a few gasps, including one from Jason.

"What?" I secure my black gloves and look at my bracelet.

"Dude she has better abs than I do!" Logan whisper-yells to some guy somewhere in the gym.

"3, 2, 1," Coach Davis says after I put my mouth guard in and waves with his hand as a sign for us to start.

***

"Right!"

"Left!"

"Oeh, nice one!"

"Yes Jade!"

"Come on Logan!"

Is all you hear through the gym hall just before I hit Logan on the jaw which causes him to fall and raise his hand - which is not holding his jaw - in surrender.

Everyone start clapping and Coach Davis walks over to me, "Great job Jade!" he high five's me and I climb out of the ring.

I grab my towel and dry my forehead.

"Well done Jade," Jason hugs me, I just nod and grab my phone to look what time it is.

"Shit, guys I have to go!" I yell through the hall and run with gloves and phone towards Joey's car.

"Hi, mom, yes, I'm on my way," I roll my eyes, start the car and hang up on my mom.

***

I quickly took a shower after I got home, I run downstairs to say goodnight but hear my mom and Joey arguing.

"Joey don't do this please," I lean against wall next to the door that leads you into the kitchen.

"Mom, you know it's true!" his voice cracks and I look at my feet, taking a deep breath.

"Joey, let it go, you can't protect her forever," I hear in my mom's voice that's she's getting mad.

"Mom, I can."

After that I hear footsteps coming in my direction and Joey storms out of the room, giving me a sad look when he sees me.

"Mom?" I search the room to find my mom pouring half of a Vodka bottle in a glas.

"Mom what are you doing?!" I run towards her as fast as I can and grab the bottle out of her hands, holding it behind my back.

"What happened? Explain it to me." She sighs, "maybe another time, now go to sleep. I love you." She kisses my forehead and heads upstairs.

I slide down the counter till' my butt hits the cold tiled kitchen floor.

***

I'm currently standing in line for McDonalds until I hear someone call my name, I turn around and see Johnson standing in line with his clique behind him.

"What do you want Johnson?" I roll my eyes.

"What are you doing here fatty?" one of his 'friends' says and I try to hold in my laugh.

"I bet I have better abs than you," I remark, and you hear a few of Delano's friends laugh and a few say 'ouch'.

"Yea sure," the guy scoffs.

"Next."

I turn around, and order one medium French fries.

When my order's ready I walk over to a small table in the corner of the McDonalds and hand it over to my brother.

"What happened between you and Mom last night?" I ask softly.

"Nothing, just a fight," He eats one of his fries, it's so tempting to take one but I'm on a special diet - I want to be professional, so I have to fight for it.

"Well, she ... er never mind," He shrugs and continues eating his fries.

"Er... okay." I say as I scroll a bit through my twitter timeline.

"Hi baby," I hear someone whisper in my ear and see it's Delano.

"Well, hey to you too Johnson," I roll my eyes.

"Maybe you would like this?" He throws the left overs of his fries and coke over my head and smirks, his 'clique' bursting out in laughter.

"And how's that funny?" suddenly my brother is standing next to Delano.

"Hi Captain," Delano says, his smirk drops.

"I just threw away my leftover fries, but wouldn't it have been a greater idea if I kept them to throw them over your head maybe?" Joey says.

Delano gives me a guilty look.

"I'm sorry Captain. I didn't er... know she was er... your -"

"Leave."

He nods and they walk away.

Did I mention that my brother is the Captain AND the quarterback of the school's football team, Delano isn't even an important part of the team. He acts like he is but actually my brother is, and not Delano.

"Thank you Jo," I bow and ran my hands through my hair and get most of the fries out of my hair.

"Let's go home," He swings his arm around my shoulder, "I love you sis." He kisses my hair and I smile, maybe my brother and I argue a lot but he would still stand up for me.

Not that I'm being bullied or something, it's just mine and Delano's act, well my act and yea - never mind.

***

"So yea that's what happened yesterday," I chuckle lightly as Imogen burst out laughing.

"Your brother stood up for you?" she asks another time.

I nod as I lean against the lockers, "Well, Delano was just messing with me so I could've easily handled it myself but whatever."

"Speaking of the Devil..." Imogen rolls her eyes and closes her locker.

"What do you want Johnson?" I say.

"Well, Jackson, how weird it might seem... I wanted to apologize, so..." he rubs the his neck and I chuckle lightly.

"Never Johnson," I kiss his cheek and Imogen and I splits ways as I make my way to music.

"Jade-" Mr. Pronk stops for a second and looks at me, "Jade Jackson?" he asks, I raise my hand and he nods before continuing the absence list.

Surprisingly Delano wasn't late this time.

"So students, you are going to perform a song next week. I don't care if you can't sing. It's going to be about which song you choose, and what the reason is behind it."

I look over at Delano, I know he's a good singer and I totally suck in it. I can't sing yet I enjoy it very much.

"So, class dismissed, y'all can go home now and work on your song. I want to know what song you're going to sing by tomorrow and you're going to perform it next week."

I place my books in my bag and take a sip of my water before placing my water bottle in my bag too. I'm one of the last persons to leave the classroom and walk slowly over my to locker somewhere in front of the school - while music is in the back of the school. I take my phone and text Imogen.

To Imogen:

I can't tonight, I'm sorry, promised my Mom to help clean up. Love you.

I sigh deeply, I hate lying to one of my best friends.

"Are you okay?" I sigh deeply when I recognize the voice, Johnson.

"Are you stalking me or something?" I scoff, opening my locker and shoving all my books into it, only taking the ones I need for tomorrow.

"Er, religion test tomorrow, Math homework, song for music," I say to myself.

"You're insane, you know that?" Delano leans against the lockers next to mine and looks at me.

"Yea, of course I know that,"

His eyes trail off to my wrist, "nice bracelet Jackson,"

He grabs my wrist to look at it but I pull it back, "do not touch it please, it's my lucky bracelet." I say, whispering the last few words.

Little does he know it's the bracelet he once gave me and I kept it as a lucky bracelet.

"Lucky bracelet? Are you serious?" he scoffs.

"Yeah now leave," "No, why would you need a lucky bracelet? You're smart enough and last time I checked you didn't play any sports."

He scans my body.

"Jeez, you're making me nervous," I say.

He smirks, "Come here baby, kiss me, I know you want it," He grabs my waist for a split second but I push him away.

"Nice try, player. Get over yourself." I say empathizing 'player'.

"Ouch that hurts, why would you call me a player? I'm loyal," He holds his right hand to his left chest, pretending to be hurt.

I roll my eyes, "Don't you see it then? It's your reputation y'know," I say, doing jazzhands, "You're the player of the school, I'm going home now." I grab my jacket out of my locker and pick up my bag from the ground, putting on my jacket.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow, player."
