Prologue

"Get out of my head right this minute!" Jess yelled at me. This is getting a little annoying, since we go through this every morning.

"I can't get out of your head." I told him.

"Yes, you can! It's not that hard! Just pop yourself out!" Jess exclaimed.

"Let me rephrase that. I'm not allowed to get out of your head. Now be quiet and let me posses you." I said, flexing my mind so I could get control of his body.

"No! Not today!" Jess yelled, pushing back. I flexed and he wasn't in control of his body anymore. I got up off his bed and went to comb his hair. Then I ate his breakfast and went to his school. The first horrible thing I tried to do was get him a detention. I failed. I got him extra credit. The next horrible thing I tried was to make a girl cry. I failed. She's now his girlfriend. The last horrible thing I tried to do was break his arm. It worked. Though, he got a lot of attention and even with his broken arm, it made his life better.

I officially suck at being a demon. I'll never be able to get my wings, the glorious black bat wings. I rescinded my control over his body. He sat down heavily on his bed.

"Man, were you supposed to ruin my life?" he asked.

"That's what demons do. Well, what we're supposed to do." I said glumly.

"Maybe you're not supposed to be a demon." he suggested.

"Of course I am! Why else would I be sent to possess you?"

"But were you actually supposed to 'ruin my life'?"

"Duh! I'm a demon!" I reminded him.

"Are you for sure that you're a demon? What if you're an angel?" Jess asked.

"An angel? Are you crazy? If I was an angel, I wouldn't be able to posses you!" I said, laughing.

"But you could be both." he said. Both? But that's never happened before. No demon and angel were ever able to produce a live child. Though it would make sense. My ability to possess people, but not able to ruin their lives, even if I try. I quickly exited Jess' body and was amazed to find out that I had a material form.

"So that's what you look like." Jess said, "By the way, what's your name?"

"I'm Helia, and normally, I don't have a material body. I'm made of smoke in the human world." I told him.

"Nice name. If you don't normally have a body here, then it's more proof of you being half and half." he said.

That got me thinking. So I decided to go back to the demon realm. Once I entered it, wings sprouted from my back. They were black, of course, but instead of bat wings, I had black angel wings. Now I don't doubt it. I'm half-demon and half-angel. The only one in existence. That's gonna give me trouble.

Chapter 1

It's been about a month since I earned my wings. I left the demon realm and haven't gone back since. I've been staying in the human realm, since I don't think that I belong in either place. Though my greatest wish is to find my parents and ask them why they had me. But demons never know their parents.

But I haven't seen a demon or an angel ever since I earned my wings. I did go to the demon realm, but never saw any demons at that time. So no one, demon or angel, knows that I have my wings. But I wonder..... what can a half demon half angel do? Other than possess someone and make their life awesome. Speaking of making someone's life awesome, I actually haven't seen Jess in a long while. Since I've got nothing to do, I'm gonna go see him. Yeah, that's a great idea!

I walked to his house, since I can't fly in the human realm (okay, won't), and rang the bell, hoping that he still lived there. A woman answered the door, and I was relieved to realize that the woman was his mother.

"Oh? Who are you?" she asked.

"I'm Jess' friend." I said.

"Oh. I've never seen you before. Are you new?"

"You could say that." I told her.

"It's hard to be new. Let me get Jess for you." she told me, ushering me inside. She walked over to the stairs and called up for Jess to come down.

"I'll be in the kitchen if you need anything." she said, then left the room.

Jess came running down the stairs, like he was in trouble. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw me standing there.

"Helia?!" he exclaimed.

"Hey Jess." I said.

"I thought that you'd never come back! Why are you here? Did you not get your wings?"

"Oh, I did. I am half demon, half angel. I don't really belong in either world."

"Can I see your wings? I'm curious to what they look like."

"Sure. Somewhere private though."

"This way." Jess led me to his room, which was actually clean for a change. He shut his door and his window so no one would be able to see in. I took my shirt off (Hey, it's a nice shirt!) and made my wings appear.

"Whoa! They're... beautiful!" he exclaimed breathlessly.

"You really think so?" I asked, "I bet the angels won't think that. The demons probably won't either."

"What you said earlier, about not belonging in either world, was wrong. You belong to both worlds, since you are both types. You're unique, and no one can say otherwise." Jess said.

"But.... Will they even accept me?" I asked, worried, making my wings disappear and putting my shirt back on.

"They should! There's no reason not to!"

"But... Who are my parents? Were they shunned? Did anyone know about it? How were they able to get along?"

"You... don't know your parents?" Jess asked, surprised.

"No. Demons are never told who their parents are. Well, except for the royalty." I explained.

"Wow. That sucks." Jess said, "Hey! Maybe I could go with you!"

"What? No. Way." I said firmly.

"Why not?"

"You would be torn apart when you go to the demon realm. The demons there would all try to possess you at once." I told him.

"No they won't. Not if you're possessing me at the time. You're part angel. I have nothing to worry about. There is no way for you to mess my life up, and that includes killing me." Jess said.

"What.... You really think that that would work?" I asked.

"It has to! I want to see the demon realm!"

"But.... What if I'm not accepted?"

"Don't worry about it. If you need help convincing them, I'll help." he said, "Plus, I just wanna see the place."

Chapter 2

I cautiously entered the demon realm while in Jess' body. No demon showed up at all, so none of them felt a human in the realm. I went through the gate that's never guarded, past the dog that's never fed by hand, and up to the door that's rarely answered. I never knocked before, so I didn't knock now. I walked inside, and three demons looked up.

"Who are you?" one asked, whose name is Clared.

"You brought a human in here?" another asked, whose name is Jake.

"Whose meat are you wearing this time?" the last one asked, grinning. Her name is Lariat. (When a demon possess someone, other demons can't tell who they are until they speak.)

"The meat I'm possessing is Jess." I said.

"Ah! Helia! Didja ever earn your wings?" Clared asked.

"Yeah. About a month ago."

"A month?!? And you never bothered to show us?" Lariat asked.

"Nah. I didn't bother." I said.

"And here I thought we were friends." Jake said.

"Anyway, why are you wearin' meat down here?" Lariat asked.

"Lariat! Don't call them 'meat'! Call them 'wing-givers'!" Clared chided.

"That's dumb. I'll call them what I want." Lariat said.

"So... Are you gonna get out of that meat and show us your new wings?" Jake asked.

"Nope. You'll take Jess if I do." I told them, smiling.

"Aww.... 'E's right! It was worth a try!" Lariat said, grinning. I rolled my eyes and walked away.
