Chapter 1

Dinah Jane Hansen sat on the third grey step of the pre-school her little sister Regina was attending with her three best friends, Karla Cabello, Normani Hamilton, and Ally Brooke Hernandez. They had been friends for over six years and were closer than ever. Two days ago, they had just attended one of their best friend's, or should I say ex-best friend's funeral. They weren't expecting her to pass away. Especially the day of Normani's birthday. Normani would always go on and on about how much bad luck she brought upon the girls and to see her bad luck finally 'work', broke her. She thought that her death was all her fault. As much as Ally, Karla, and Dinah tried to convince her it wasn't, she still wouldn't listen.

"When does Regina get out of school? It feels like we've been sitting here for centuries." Ally asked, looking around as she played with her light brown hair.

Ally was known as the ray of sunshine. She was positive about everything and anything, even if it was the worst thing anyone could possibly think of. The only thing the girls disliked about her was how impatient she was. She would never be able to wait for food at a restaurant for longer than twenty minutes.

"Just about..." the bell rang. "Now." Dinah said, winking as she stood up and wiped the back of her shorts. She turned around. "Are they dirty?" she asked her three best friends.

"No." they all replied in synch. Dinah turned back around and grabbed her bag off the ground, holding it with her forearm.

They all got out of the way as the front door of the school opened. They watched as a bunch of kids came pouring out in groups of four or five. Dinah strained her eyes to see if she could spot her little sister. After about five minutes, she spotted her.

"Dinah!" Regina cried and ran up to Dinah, immediately hugging her.

Regina was a Tongan, black-haired five year old who went to one of the best pre-schools in the New York area. She was good at making friends and was obligated to ever since she moved there from California. She didn't want to because she was going to leave her 'boyfriend' behind. She couldn't remember his name two days after they left. That was basically how middle school relationships went. But not with Dinah Jane and her boyfriend Alexander. He was the head quarterback at Kingsbridge International High School in the Bronx. Whenever she invited him to family events, she claimed that they were madly in love in which everyone could see. She would always brag about their relationship in front of the other girls which bothered them aside from Karla who was having a 'thing' with another guy in the same school.

Dinah had dropped Regina off at home and made her a small meal for dinner which included chicken nuggets and chocolate pudding, being Regina's absolute favorite. After she changed out of her sweaty clothes into a new outfit, she got back into her car where the girls were waiting.

"So, where are we going now?" Normani asked as she put her seatbelt on.

Dinah shrugged even though she knew exactly where she was going to bring them. They wouldn't have guessed it, anyway.

"How about the mall?" Karla suggested. "I desperately need a new pair of wedges. The only ones I own are already dirty and I just got them two weeks ago!" she put emphasis on the just.

"Calm down." Dinah laughed. "They're just shoes. Plus, I've got a great idea. Just sit back and go on twitter or something. It's going to be a pretty wild ride." she added, unknowingly scaring the other girls.

Dinah was known for being the craziest one out of the four. She would come up with the craziest plans and excuses which sure as hell worked every time. She was also the one who would get the most compliments when they went out together. As much as they didn't want to admit it but they knew, she had a pretty bangin' body.

"Fine... but where are we going?" Karla asked as she started biting her nails.

"I don't know. Where are we going?" Dinah responded, adding a creepy tone to the whole sentence.

Karla, Normani, and Ally just looked at each other. They knew that whatever was going to happen wasn't going to be a good idea. It would most likely end in one if not all of them staying the night at the local police station which actually happened once due to Dinah's decisions.

"Listen, I'm not going to drive us off a cliff. Like I said, sit back and enjoy the fucking ride." Dinah barked as she turned the car on.

Forty five minutes later, the car came to a stop. Karla immediately looked out the window to see a huge mansion-like house in sight. Dinah turned the car off and stepped out before the other girls could process what was happening.

"W-Where are we?" Normani stuttered. "This place is amazing." she added, shaking her head in disbelief.

"We're at a party, girls." Dinah announced with a smirk.

"A party?!" Ally and Karla divulged in synch.

Dinah laughed as she locked the car, heading for the door. The rest of the girls just stood in opposite places around the car. She seemed to notice and turned around, putting her hands on her hips.

"Well, aren't you guys coming?" she questioned.

Ally, Karla, and Normani eyed each other, determining whether stepping foot inside of the house was a good idea.

"I-I've never been to a party before... but sure." Karla's voice cracked. "Let's go." she tried to act like the leader of the three and started walking after Dinah.

Normani ran up after her and grabbed her arm, pulling her back and turning her around. She thought Karla was being a bit too crazy.

"You can't do this." she whispered, making sure that Dinah wouldn't hear a thing. "You know what happens at parties like these. If you could hear the music from three blocks away, the end result will be no good." she warned.

Normani's eyes were close to popping out of her head. This would always happen every time she was too stressed or just really shocked. Karla looked up at the sky, watching the clouds slowly move. She took a deep breath and looked back at the house.

"I think it's time for us to open up and meet new people." she admitted as she played with her fingers.

Normani agreed but didn't want to admit it. She always wanted to seem like the right one in an argument, even if she wasn't even arguing.

"Fine." she said with a sigh. "But don't get mad when Shawn finds out about this." she pointed a finger in Karla's face and walked toward the door.

Before going in, Karla turned to Ally who was already walking past her and into the house. She took another deep breath and took a few steps forward then came to a full stop. She wasn't sure what she was going to be getting herself into, so she promised herself to not let anyone get to her head. Not even the guys who would hit on her in which she was sure would happen. She was usually terrible with male acquaintances and plus, she was kind of with a guy back in the Bronx. Taking a sigh, she stepped into the house. The loud music blasted into her ears, forcing her to cover them. There were a ton of guys and girls scattered around with red cups in their hands. She looked around, trying to find an empty pathway to the kitchen or a non-crowded room. She didn't find one and had no choice but to push through the crowd of drunken teenagers. She made her way out of the crowd and found the kitchen. She stepped in, nearly slipping on spilled beer. She groaned and took a red cup off the counter. She found the fridge and opened it, knocking the beers out of the way as she looked for water.

"Looks like someone's thirsty." a male's voice said from behind, making Karla jump up.

She turned around to see a tall, muscular yet handsome guy in a red shirt. She immediately started getting shaky.

"Uh, y-yeah... I'm totally thirsty." she addressed, stopping herself from speaking any further. She just knew that she was going to embarrass herself.

"I figured. Anyway, I'm Jack." he put his hand out for her to shake.

She slowly took it in hers and shook it up and down.

"I'm Karla." she introduced herself. "Karla Cabello. By the way, I'm only seventeen so I might be too young for y-"

"Karla, age doesn't matter. Plus, I'm seventeen too." he announced, making Karla reveal that famous smile of hers.

Even though they'd just met, he was totally feeling her and she was totally feeling him. She totally forgot all about Shawn since she was all caught up in Jack's presence.

"I know that." she demurred as she turned back to the counter and poured some water into her cup. She took a sip of it and made a sigh of relief. She felt pretty embarrassed. She was basically paying more attention to the water than the hot guy standing right in front of her who possibly wanted to get her number. She noticed and put the cup back down on the counter, turning back to Jack.

"So, tell me about yourself." Karla proudly spoke up. She was usually the one to listen and not ask the most questions.

"You know, you're the first girl to ask me that all night... all my life, actually." he pointed out.

"R-Really?" Karla stuttered, holding the heart locket necklace hanging from her neck. She was totally interested in this Jack kid and really wanted to know more about him. "How so?" she questioned.

Jack took a deep breath and stretched his arms out.

"Girls are usually interested in me just for my looks and nothing more. It's a surprise that you actually want to get to know me. Especially because you're a very pretty girl." he confessed, making Karla's jaw drop.

Karla wasn't used to seeing hot guys, who weren't complete jerks, turning out to be total sweethearts. It was rare, especially in this generation. She didn't know what to say so she let out a simple 'oh'. She looked down at her feet, still not knowing what to say. Jack simply stood there as she started dancing to the music.

"You good at dancing?" he asked, looking her up and down.

Karla immediately shook her head.

"You don't even wanna know. I'm probably the worst dancer in the world." she joked with a little laugh. She really wasn't a good dancer. Every time she told anyone about her terrible dancing, they didn't believe her. Supposedly she looked like the 'dancing' type, especially because of her body.

"Hey, don't say that! Show me. You can't be that bad." he affirmed. Karla disagreed and no matter how much Jack begged, she wouldn't dance for him. "Seriously, why won't you dance in front of me? If it helps, could we maybe dance... together?" he suggested.

His question made Karla's eyes light up. Someone actually wanted to dance with her and that someone was a guy who most likely had hundreds of girls after him. That was the thing holding her back. She didn't want to like a guy who fucked around with every girl. Not that he was, but she'd been fucked over so many times in the past that it was hard to believe when someone actually took some interest in her. She finally spoke up.

"Would you really wanna dance with me?" she crossed her arms.

"Of course I would. It's not like you have two left feet." he joked and took her hand.

"What if I do?" she joked right back, hoping that he didn't take it seriously. But he did.

Jack looked down at her feet then back up. He looked terrified. "Dude, I'm kidding!" she let the joke go. She didn't want to scare another guy off.

"I know! I was just messing with you. Anyway, let's get going." he took her hand and led her to the dance floor which wasn't nearly as full as it was when she had arrived. It made her a bit more nervous but she already kind of promised to dance with him.

She got ready and turns out; one of her favorite songs began playing. She put all her shame aside and started dancing like a maniac, managing to still have rhythm. Jack laughed and played along, dancing along with her. They stayed on the dance floor for thirty more minutes. By the time they got back to the kitchen, they were sweating like a cheetah that'd just gotten back from hunting its dinner.

"Holy crap... that was so much fun." he said as he wiped his forehead.

"I know! Now I suddenly feel more comfortable dancing around people." Karla proudly responded. She clapped and jumped up a little. After she settled down, her phone started ringing. She took her phone out of her pocket and saw who it was. Dinah. She knew she had to pick it up.

"Hey, my friend is calling me. I'll be right back, I promise." she gave him a heads up and found a door leading to the backyard of the house which was thankfully vacant. She picked up the phone and started walking along the side of the big pool in sight.

"Karla? Where are you?!" Dinah pled onto the phone.

"Whoa, chill out. I'm in the backyard right next to the pool."

"Good. Stay away from the upstairs area. I'm with Ally and Normani in the front. Come. We have to leave and now." Dinah demanded.

Karla was way more than confused. She was worried. Why did she have to avoid the second floor of the house? She took her advice and headed back into the kitchen to see Jack patiently waiting for her while taking a sip out of his red cup.

"Hey, I really have to go now." she informed. He sighed and put his cup down. "Why?" he asked. Anyone could tell that he was pretty bummed out by the fact that she was leaving. Karla looked around.

"I really don't know. But I can give you my number." she said as she reached into her purse, fishing for a pen and a piece of napkin. "That'd be great." he replied. She wrote her number down on the napkin and handed it to him. "I hope to hear from you in the future." he put the napkin in the pocket of his t-shirt. Karla nodded and gave him a big hug, leaving and heading outside. She saw Normani, Ally, and Dinah standing in front of the car with their arms crossed.

"What's up?" Karla asked as she stopped right in front of them. "What's up? What do you mean 'what's up'?" Dinah yelled. Karla put her arms up in surrender. "I didn't know I was in army camp. But seriously, what's going on?" she asked, crossing her arms.

Dinah flashed her phone in Karla's face without delay.

Friendly reminder that this party won't get the memory of your ex-best friend out of your head. -L

The four girls couldn't be more horrified. They nervously looked around then hopped in the car.

"Drive."
