Love Me

Short Story

Ansel's fur ruffled in fright as he tried his very best to be quiet. His tiny little paws tiptoed across the kitchen floor. The manager had been smart enough to get a dog because it wasn't a mouse that was eating away at their food.

Ansel's sharp senses caught the smell of the dog. He was just outside these walls. Finally finding the shelf where they kept their serials, the cat quickly lifted himself from the floor to the stool then to the counter. When he was just in front of the big brown shelf, he purred. So happy to finally eat in days.

He slowly opened it and jumped in. His hungry stomach purred along with him as he pushed the carton of coco pops down. Ignoring the thud, he moved quickly down again and ran to the fridge to get the milk they always kept in the lower compartment.

You would think why a cat like this had this much sense when he had no home training. But after years of being kicked out of restaurants, homes and alleys by other cats, Ansel had learned how to be a better and professional thief.

Ansel ate to his fill and laid down comfortably on the floor that he even slept off. It was an entirely bad idea.

The moment the kitchen staffs got in, which meant it was morning, he scrambled up quickly and searched for an exit as the staffs began to scream and throw whatever at him. The cat saw the window he used to get in then quickly jumped on whatever he could to get out. He even hoisted himself over a man's head to get out.

And that was how Ansel's mornings are. Always on the run.

Ansel ran at full speed mostly because the fear was still in him. He could hear his own tiny little heart beat pumping faster than normal and with every beat, his paws met the floor.

In comfort, Ansel ran to the only place he could think of. Crescent Lockwood Academy. It was just around the corner of town and there were hardly any crowd there. He got to the gate and peeped, hoping he could see the one person that had ever looked at him with a smile.

When Ansel was sure the security was gone, he snuck in by passing between the gate, meowing in pain when he had to pass his tummy through. But he got in anyway and ran quickly to the place he knew his friend would be.

He got to the garden and meowed sadly when he didn't see him, but that didn't get him down. This friend always came there no matter what and even if he couldn't make it, he always left something there for him to show that he won't.

Lying down on the steps, Ansel thought of the first time they had met. The boy had been walking back from school and had seen him, wet and starving to death by an ally. This boy had bought a very big fish and at first, Ansel withdrew, scared that it might be poison but when the boy ate a little from it, Ansel tore at it.

Then every day, the boy would drop fishes for Ansel as he went and came back from school but that was during the early stage of their relationship. Curiosity got better of the cat, and he followed the boy to school. Of course, people tried to capture him when he got in, but this boy saved him.

And the boy had no idea that he was.

That familiar ringing noise blared and Ansel's ears twitched in pain but even though it hurts him, it filled him up with joy because he was going to see this boy again.

"Meow." He quickly called the moment he heard the footsteps approach. The footsteps seemed to pick up speed and Ansel stood quickly. Prepared as ever to meet his friend.

The funny looking boy smiled the moment he laid eyes on the small looking cat, laughing when Ansel leapt from the ground to his arms. The boy cradled him as he sat on the floor.

This boy was called Nathan. He had curly brown hair with really dark eyes like Ansel. A few freckles here and there on his face and along his shoulder. And he had a terrible dressing sense.

Nathan ran a finger behind his ear as he tickled Ansel's tummy making him snicker and purr like the cat he was.

"Aww. Who is my happy little cat?"

"Meow!" He managed between laughs.

Nathan laughed then dropped him down so he could go through his bag. He got out a sardine can and opened it for him in a small plate. As Ansel ate happily away, Nathan continued, "So, I talked with my mum and guess what?"

"Meow," He paused to answer then continued.

"She's allowing me to keep you."

Ansel practically choked on his fish. Keep him? Does that mean he gets to have a home? Does that mean he could be loved? His eyes grew big and wide when he turned to Nathan to see him grinning. Did this boy love him? But why? He was just a stray cat. Even a rat once told him that there was really no home for strays.

"So, do you want to come home with me? My mum can't wait to see you. She even got you a place to sleep." He continued.

He nodded immediately. He couldn't wait.

*****

"Mum! I'm home and I brought Ansel."

Yes, he knew his name because he had spent almost a whole day trying to tell him. He had picked up things related with the letter of his name and it took Nathan forever to understand. Ansel quickly wrote him off as the dull type.

"Oh, my." Nathan's mum ran out of the kitchen and Ansel leant closer to Nathan. Humans are still one of his most hated creatures.

Nathan's mum peeped at him then grin but Ansel grew scared. Nathan and his mum looked almost alike, save the bigger nose Nathan had.

"He looks adorable." She squeaked. "Where did you say you found him again?"

"Beside old grandpa Nelly's shop. He was hungry and so broken."

"Hard to believe." She said then looked at her son and asked, "Can I carry him?"

Ansel's eyes fell into a slit the moment her hands touched him. And you could even hear the deep sneer.

Nathan's mum face immediately fell, and she withdrew saying, "I guess it's just you, Natty boy."

Nathan smiled and said to his mum. "I'm happy you let him stay."

"It's the least I can do for you, honey." she pecked him then returned to the kitchen.

"I cannot wait for you to see your bed."

Ansel was just as excited and wished Nathan could be a lot faster as he ran up the stairs to his room. Nathan busted a door open and Ansel was showed to his small crib just at the corner of the room with toys and a great view of the sky from the window. The cat jumped on his bed then rolled on it, trying to find the right spot to stay. When he found it, he meowed and Nathan sighed.

"Thank goodness. I would faint if you didn't like it." He stood then dropped his bag on the bed and said, "You have no idea how happy I am to have you. You are like the smartest and cutest thing I have ever seen. The person who threw you out in the first place must be a loser. Right Ansel?" He added slowly. "You won't ever leave me, would you?"

Ansel could hear the fear in his voice and he meowed again, crawling out of the bed to rub himself against Nathan, soothingly.

"Honestly," Nathan said as he knelt down. "It's like I love you."

Ansel's little heart skipped a beat when he said that. That L-word. He tried to portray it back, licking his hand and face, meowing in the same rhythm. He had to tell Nathan he loved him because he did.

So much.

Nathan laughed and said, "That's enough now. Okay, wait for me. I'll take a shower and we could go for a walk together."

"Meow Meow Meow." He tried again but Nathan just took it as a yes for his proposal.

Nathan left quickly with a towel and Ansel used that moment to transform. He hadn't been in his human form for years. Mostly because he hated them but he had to tell Nathan that he loved him.

And that was what he did.

Nathan's jaw dropped when he saw the down to earth sexy boy in his room and to make it worse, he was naked. Like, butt Naked.

"I love you." Was his greeting. He moved toward Nathan and he stepped back.

"Do not come any closer to me. I do not care if you are some kind of god or something," Nathan said in a panic as he moved closer to the door.

Ansel ran after him as he tried to open the door and successfully caught him, slamming the door close in his face.

"Please don't kill me," Nathan begged without even looking at him.

Ansel frowned. Did he look that scary or are all humans scary? He looked for something that could reflect himself and saw a mirror. He frowned at it as he looked at himself.

He no longer had his fur and was about a 6ft5'. He had really dark hair with black eyes that seemed to intrigue him. His body was toned and strong compared to Nathan's. Was that why he was scared?

He looked at that dangling stick in front of him and touched it. Did Nathan have one too? He thought then walked up to Nathan who was pressed against the door and ripped the towel off him. His wasn't as long as Ansel's but what does that mean? What does it do?

"Oh, my god. I'm about to get raped in my own room." He cried out.

Ansel gave him a puppy dog eye then knelt to nuzzle his feet. At first, Nathan wanted to scream before he actually thought of it.

"Where is Ansel?"

"I'm Ansel," Ansel said happily then continued to nuzzle him.

"But how?" he asked surprised and Ansel explained.

"Honestly, I do not know. I only realised I had the power to change when I met a fellow of my kind."

The boy knelt down in front of his former cat and asked, "What are you?"

"I am a Werecat. Weres have the ability to change shape between a human and an animal. I got my figure a few years ago."

"This is big Ansel. Is that your real name?"

"Yes. It's all I remember."

"No family huh?" Nathan smiled then said, "Welcome to ours, but I don't think my mum is going to be thrilled to have a Werecat. So just don't change around in the house unless you would be kicked out."

Ansel gasped then asked as he touched Nathan's face softly. "Do you love me, Nathan?"

Nathan blinked then looked away. Ansel was already on the brink of tears. If Nathan didn't love him, then who would? No one had ever shown him any love or care as Nathan.

Suddenly, Nathan grabbed Ansel's face in his hands and slammed his mouth against his.

What?

Ansel knew what that was. It was a kiss. According to Nathan, people did that to the people they loved. He had told him as they watched a movie together a long time ago.

To show his respects and joy, Ansel kissed him back, but Nathan pulled away immediately then laughed.

"No. You'll need a lot more training if you want to kiss me."

"So you do love me," Ansel said gleefully.

"I loved you the moment you looked at me." He said as he stood up.

Ansel watched him walk to his drawer, but his attention fell back to the thing between his legs. It was standing erect and Ansel didn't know why so he asked.

"Nathan, if you kiss the thing between my legs would it go down?"

Ansel heard a thud then turned quickly to see Nathan covered in clothes from his wardrobe. The Werecat quickly rushed to his side and Nathan laughed. "Let's take things slow and steady first, okay?" Nathan smiled at him and Ansel's heart skipped a thousand more times.

For someone who hated humans, Ansel couldn't wait to be one.
