K, chef

I heard this story from my relative who had a childhood friend closed encounters with the dead.

When he was young, back in mid 70s, he always enjoyed riding his motorbike with his friends at night because it's very cooling and there wasn't much traffic.

So one night they went for bbq at a friends kampong and after all been ate and drank they play some poker cards and watch tv till quite late into the night. So this friend, ah yong, suggested they rode to the beach for adventures but when they about to leave, some girls backed out because they said beach was boring and nothing interesting.

So in the end they agreed to visit the cemetery, for the sake of seeing ghost. When they got there, except for the wind and blackness, nothing in particular. Then ah yong suddenly remembered he had a wind chime on his bike. He bought it a while ago for his girlfriend but they broke off before he can gift it to her.

Ah yong said he heard it from someone if you wanted to see ghost, hang a wind chime on a tree and they will come. So he hanged it on a tree nearby and waited; but nothing happened. So the gang booed him and wanted to leave because the girls were getting sleepy.

Then something happened. Some blue and green lights started to appear and surround the wind chime. There are no wind, but the surrounding air is chilling cold and the wind chine was spinning in a anti-clockwise direction.

Suddenly one of the girls screamed and the whole gang basically ran out of the place in high speed. Everyone started their bikes and dashed out of the place. Next day my relative was contacted by police because ah yong never went home, so his parents called the police.

My relative was very frightened because the rest of the gang were contacted too, he told the police they went to the cemetery last night but nobody were sure whether did ah yong left or not. So the police went back but found nothing, but they found his motorbike under a tree, below the wind chime.

Until today ah yong is still missing.

Y, police officer

I heard this story from a personal experience of my sister-in-arms, Lemmy.

Lemmy lived with her mom near Serangoon Gardens and she is the only kid. One night she was struggling with her thesis so she plug into her iphone for some music. The music goes by but her thesis still going nowhere and it's almost 4am. So she decided to cook some cup noodles for supper.

She got back soon and plug into her music again, typing in the keyboard. Then she heard some interference from her headphones, sounds not included in the music track. She stopped the music, removed her headphone, but the room is as quiet as a mouse.

So she continued with the music and typing, and after a while, she heard it again. This time after she stopped the music, she faintly heard something like "tolong... tolong..."

Lemmy wanted to run to her mom but remembered her mom went for a wedding in JB. She picked up her cordless phone on her table to call her boyfriend who lived in Bishan, thinking he will get to her house quicker than her mom. After she dial the numbers, there are no sound, only "tolong... tolong..."

Lemmy screamed and threw the phone onto the floor and our of sudden the door bell sounded and she dashed and opened the door without thinking who is it. Her mom came home early because of heavy rain over at JB and find her daughter face white as sheet, shivering in fear. They lived in a hotel that night. Morning came and they visited the temple at Bugis and found a tang-ki to help with the haunting.

The tang-ki said lucky the spirit only just passing by but lost the way back home. After some offerings and money, everything is back to normal, and Lemmy still can't finished her thesis.

R, personal assistant

Many people rent room or beds in Singapore, due to whatever reason you may have. But the point is, next time when you rent a room, better check why is it so cheap.

I heard this from a friend called Ivy. She just finished college in Australia and wanted to work in Singapore, so she came here around 2010 and rented a room at the east. She searched through rental websites and finally found a room that is pretty cheap and near the work place. Everything was provided for her and best of all, the owner doesn't live there even she's the only one in the five room flat.

Ivy moved in on a Tuesday night and glad she have the whole house by herself. After bath and applying facial cream, she went straight to bed. As she was sleeping, she can't stop hearing tiny items dropping on the floor from the unit above her room. Soon it was real bad she have to go up one level to knock the door.

Ivy knocked for a while but no respond. As she gonna leave the neighbor opened the door with a gap and told her the unit is empty. Ivy was terrified and dashed back to her bed, thinking as long she got to sleep everything will be fine.

Then the noise returned, but this time it was from her room. The sound was like coins dropping onto the floor because she could heard some of it bounced and spinning before stopping. So she decided to see what's on the ground through a small gap from the blanket, but there were no coins at all. She slowly moved her head up and from a pair of legs swinging in the air, to a man who hung himself from the ceiling. The coins, were falling off his pants pocket while swinging. Ivy screamed and ran out of the house.

She met some policemen on the way down the block and called her friends to help her.

Next day she called the landlady and wanted to move out. Now she always asked multiple questions before moving in a new room.
