Dedication

By BRIAN HANSEN
Jack Dyer and I wrote our first book Captain Blood some 40 years ago, he dedicated the book to his mother with these words: ‘To my mother, who at the beginning of my career started worrying that I would be hurt, and finished worrying whom I would hurt.’
In this complete biography of Jack's life I feel it is time to encompass the game itself in the dedication. The people who made it possible and have given the community as a whole so much entertainment and stimulation. This book is dedicated to the club supporters - the men, women and children who have stood and served in the outer for more than 100 years. Without them Jack would still be digging up spuds at Yarra Junction and Gary Ablett, John Coleman, Bob Pratt, Royce Hart, Kevin Sheedy, Dermott Brereton and all the others would never have surfaced. We thank you all.
