Rules

Each story is marked out of 50. There are 5 categories for which points will be given out:

1. Word count (10 points)

This is a 1,000 word story competition, so ideally, every story should contain exactly 1000 words. However, stories that contain between 990 and 1,010 words are also eligible for this competition. A story with exactly 1,000 words receives the maximum of 10 points for this category. For every word above or below the target, one point is lost.  Any numbers not written out in full (example: 99 instead of ninety nine) will count towards the total word count.

2. Storyline (10 points)

This competition is not just about word count. It is about the story. There are no well defined boundaries for this category, it is down to human judgement.

3. Characters (10 points)

Every story has to have characters. It is not the characters themselves that are marked, but the language used to describe their appearance and actions. Their development is also considered. This is also down to human judgement.

4. Imagination (19 points)

Above all else, this competition is about imagination. That's why you get a whopping 19 points for this category. This category is also down to human judgement.

5. Plot twist (1 point)

This point is awarded if your story contains a plot twist.
