The Birthday Present

I won the silver medal at the GPF in Barcelona.  Victor is returning to competition - acting as both a competitor and my coach.

And I've decided to join him - to continue competing at Victor's side.

Until now, I've wanted to take charge of my own life, on my own - but ever since I met Victor, my mind has been changed a little.

I now know that I want to walk down the same path with him... that my life is not mine alone.

The two of us made a promise ~ on the ice.

That we would stay close... never leave the other's side.

The door to the hotel room clicked as it closed behind them.

"I'm stuffed," Victor sighed, "I couldn't eat another bite!"

"Me too!" Yuri agreed, "It's been a while since I've been able to eat without worrying about my weight."

Removing his coat, Victor turned to Yuri, "say Yuri... are you really all right with turning down Chris's invitation?  It's the last time we'll be able to get together with everyone this year."

Yuri looked up from untying his shoes, "oh yeah.  Sorry, if you wanted to go, Victor, go ahead.  I'll come with you."

"What are you apologizing for, silly?" Victor had tucked his coat onto a hanger and made his way over to where Yuri was folding his jumper, "I like spending time with you better than anyone else, you know Yuri.  Besides," he slid his arms along his shoulders and around his neck, pulling him into a hug, "it's after our wedding on the ice, isn't it?  Tonight, you could say we're newlyweds.  We should spend tonight alone - just the two of us."

"Huh?" a blush crept across Yuri's cheeks, "ah— um... yeah."

The slightly nervous look that appeared on his face went fortunately unseen by the man that was draped around his shoulders, as he had his eyes closed.

"Um... Victor," he reached down to his bag and pulled something out.

"Hm?  What is it, Yuri?"  Victor asked as he reluctantly peeled himself away.

With a quick turn, Yuri presented him with a present, "Happy Birthday!"

Emitting a characteristic "wow", Victor gleefully took it from him and held it close to his chest.

"I suppose it would've been ok if we'd waited until I got back to Hasetsu," Yuri continued, "but I just couldn't wait."

"I'm so happy," Victor smiled, "is it alright if I open it?"

Yuri nodded, "sure, go ahead."

After a little rustling, the gold and silver ribbon and brown paper was discarded to reveal a disc case with the words 'Happy Birthday' printed on a card in the cover.

"A DVD?"

"Yeah," Yuri's hands were twisting behind his back as he closely observed his toes, "of today's exhibition.  I asked a cameraman I know to film it special.  Since you're a celebrity, Victor, you can probably get anything you want, so..." he glanced up momentarily, "I wanted to give you something that you couldn't buy with money - a moment of the time we spent together."

Across the metallic disc were written the words;

'Happy Birthday, my love Victor

You always make me happy, thank you for your love.

Sweets are forever!!'

Victor remembered Yuri's mother telling him that the last phrase was a way of saying that love was forever.

"Uh...um... sorry it's not a gold medal.  And I didn't really know what else to buy you as a present..." he had begun to scratch the side of his face which only made his blush more obvious, "oh yeah - flowers!  I should've gotten you some fl—"

His rambling stopped short at the sight of a drop of water landing with a splish on the top of the case.

Head jerking up, he was presented with the devastating sight of tears pouring out of the beautiful eyes before him.

"Vi-Victor!?  Um - why're you crying!?  Did I screw up again!?"

"I've... never..." Victor's voice was barely a whisper as he spoke, the sound of which startled Yuri to sputter out a "huh!?"

The flop of platinum hair landed over his shoulder as Victor hugged him, trying to push his words out, "had a present... that made me... so... happy..."

A split second after the shock that came from the shoulder that continued to be leant on, Yuri folded his arms around him, holding him close before pulling away and smoothing away his tears to protest, "it's like I'm hurting you."

"I can't help it," came the response as his kissed the palm of the hand that had caught his tears, "you've given me so much love at once, Yuri, that I just can't hold it back."

Seeing that the blush on Victor's face mimicked his own, Yuri smiled warmly, "...yeah.  I thought so the first time I saw them, but... your tears are so pretty, Victor.  They're like pearls."

"Wait," Victor sniffled, "are you making me cry because you want to see my tears?"

Yuri chuckled softly, "maybe."

"That's horrible, the only time I cry this much is in front of you Yuri!"

He barely had a chance to notice that Yuri's blush had disappeared.

"Yeah.  So," Yuri closed his eyes as he removed his glasses, before opening them full force for Victor to drown in, "don't let anyone else see this."

Cupping his face lightly, he pulled him down to meet his mouth.

Victor's arms clenched naturally around his waist, as Yuri sucked and teased at his lips.

Feeling Victor calm, Yuri pulled away whilst tucking his finger under his chin and stroking his thumb along his bottom lip, "stopped crying?"

"Mm," Victor replied, lighting kissing the sensual digit.

Their gazes swam in one another, "Happy Birthday once again, Victor."

Their hands clasped tenderly between them, "thank you, Yuri."

"Won't you sing me the song?" Victor laughed as he darted for the complimentary deserts tray, "Haaaaappy Biiiirthdaay~?"

"Oh!  Um - I'm not really good at singing..."

"What!?  Well, sing it anyway!  I'm the only one listening, you know~"

"Um... maybe next year - after I've practiced a little."

"...Meanie!"
