The story follows a young woman named Scarlett DuMort who is a nurse who is very good at her job, but, one day when a patient dies on her watch, something strange happens. She notices a person standing in the corner who shouldn't be in the room at all, and when she goes to tell him so, the man is astounded that Scarlett can see him. He is Death, and he is there to collect the soul of the dead patient. Filled with questions and, of course, being quite interested in this man, Scarlett takes in upon herself to meet him more often, but not at the hospital.
