My name is Mel Finefrock. I am both a writer and an editor. I dabble in poetry, songwriting, and articles spanning a variety of topics for sources such as Disability.gov, REACH, Inc., and Keith Draws. Most notably in my budding editorial career, I have edited ten novels among three independently published authors, such as the award-winning Krista Lakes; one personal essay for an actress and playwright; and a scholarly article for two authoring professors. I am currently seeking clients and would love to meet you and connect with you!Other fun facts about me:* I was born with a progressive eye condition called Cone/Rod Dystrophy which causes retinal deterioration. I'm about at light perception right now--that is to say, I can see nothing at this moment except the shape of and light from my computer screen in front of me--but I will eventually be totally blind. (I'm actually writing to you with the aid of a screenreading software called NVDA, which vocalizes most things to me aloud.) Thankfully, I've been blessed with a wonderful support system in my mom's side of the family, literally half of whom are blind; they have taught and inspired me to do great things. I am here to tell you that life with disability is by no means a walk in the park, but joy, fulfillment, and quality of life are definitely attainable. I have endured a lot of hardship, both with regard to my blindness and otherwise, but I love my life.* I am a 2013 cum laude graduate from the University of North Texas with a bachelor of arts in English and an undergraduate certificate in rehabilitation studies. Go Mean Green! If you're a UNT student or alum, please stop by and say hello.* My Myers-Briggs personality type is ISFJ (introverted, sensing, feeling, judging).* I have the sun in Virgo, the moon in Libra, and Cancer ascending.* I am an out-and-proud synesthete and associate color with print and Braille graphemes, music and some ambient sound, touch and pain, smell and taste, and sometimes emotion. It's almost like the visual cortex of my brain decided to retaliate and replaced my dwindling vision with another form of sight. How to find me on the Web:My poetryMy musicMy editor's statement
