Not so demonic

He was sitting on the red throne, built with the bones of the sinners - as his older brother has been telling him for centuries or even longer. You see, when you’re a demon, a high-class demon you stop count the time at some point. So did he. He was now sitting before his brother - Asmodeus - one of the most powerful demons in the whole realm, the king of demons, one of the seven princes of Hell. The red-skinned man with long white hair, wearing a black suit, with two black holes instead of eyes was scolding him for the past hour.

“Is there something, you do not understand here?” Asmodeus asked, playing with the top of his bony-cane. The room they were in was filled with the flames, which were circling them, but they didn’t even feel them. Perks of being demons.

“And by that, you mean, brother?” he replied with his annoyed tone. Of course he knew, why Asmodeus had called him here.

“Did I make a mistake by sending you to this job?” the older demon questioned again. “Or maybe you exist to...how mortals say it...to annoy the hell out of me?”

“That’s kind of…” he started, but was interrupted loudly by the other man.

“You were supposed to possess that man!”

“And I did it.” he explained with frowned brows. “I do not understand your lamenting, Asmodeus.”

“Maybe I should explain to you, what being a demon means?” the demon wanted to interrupt the older one, but Asmodeus continued, pointing his cane, at the other. “You were supposed to possess the King of Greenland. By possessing I mean make him fail at everything, make him kill many people. Push him to bring the biggest destruction to his country!”

“I…”

“Do not interrupt me!” he boomed through the room, and the voices of his victims from centuries stopped their moans, at once. “And what did you do, instead? You made him a more powerful king. Gained more loyalty from his people, for him. Pushed him to bond with a woman and convenience a spawn, a future heir to the throne! Now, tell me, brother, why have you failed me?”

“I wanted to have some fun.”

“Fun?!” Asmodeus asked with a disbelief in his deep voice. “Demons don’t do fun, brother. Demons are demonic! We bring the great destruction to the mankind. We don’t do fun. We possess, make humans miserable, bring them pain. Not having fun and helping them, like you’ve been doing, successively, lately.”

“It was only one human…” he tried to defend himself, though he knew that nothing can change Asmodeus’s mind.

“One human, for whom you were not demonic enough!”

“I’m not demonic?” he asked, looking at the other with a disbelief in his yellow eyes. “I’m a demon.”

“But not so much demonic, if you can’t possess someone properly.” he stated firmly, huffing at him with his fire breath. “Now go, and be more demonic in your possession!”
