The Orphan's Wish

Nila's Background

Have you ever made a wish on a shooting star though you knew the wish would never come true? That was me. Well, it used to be me. I now be sure to wish on every shooting star that passes by. Bet your now wondering why I changed my mind to such a childish affair. Well, to be honest, it didn't start with a very happy beginning.

I wast born to a very poor family on March 23, 2000. My family loved me dearly, but they couldn't take care of me. My family wanted me to have a good life, but they knew that they would never be able to afford a chance for me to live happily, so they did what they thought was best for me. They sent me away so that I might have a better chance at happiness. On August 12 of that same year, I was brought to Ms. Chatilane's Orphanage.

I've now been here for 18 years. Day after day, I watch as children find new homes with new parents who will love them for life and I watch out my window wondering if I would be next. But I never was. I was a child who was unloved and unwanted by all adults. Even Ms. Chatilane didn't give two nicks wether I lived or died. But I'm not complaining. I've got a bunch of little "brothers" and "sisters" that look up to me and I will never let them down. I love them like family because they are family.

Well, enough of the sappy background story. This is where the story gets good.

That One Star

"Are you comfortable, Lacy?" I asked the sweet little five year old while tucking in her blankets around her small body.

"Yes," she said with a yawn escaping at the same time. "When will Mommy and Daddy come back?" she asked with another yawn.

I looked at her soft blue eyes. I couldn't bare to tell her the truth. "Soon," I lied, "Very soon."

I walked back over to my bed which was by a small window. I knelt down by my bed to say my usual prayer.

"Dear God, thank you for this wonderful day you have blessed me with and all the wonderful friends too. I pray that you watch over the little ones while they sleep and put your healing hand over the sick as well. God, I also pray that you deliver me from this prison I am forced to call home. Please take me away and give the rest of these sweet children a home with parents who will forever love them. Again I thank you for all the wonderful things you have done and will do in my life. All this I pray in your holy and precious name. Amen."

I look over at the sleeping Lacy and the rest of the children. I then turn back to the window just in time to see a shooting star pass by.

"Make a wish!" someone whispered.

I quickly turned to see who had spoken to me. It was Lacy. She had woken up just in time to see the shooting star as well. I smiled to her and then turned back to the window.

I laughed at myself. But not to disappoint the little girl, I made a wish. I wished that I could one day meet someone I've wanted to meet for a very long time. He was fictional though, but absolutely amazing. I've watched his movies hundreds of times. But everytime he still amazes me.

I did not want to just meet him, but to fall in love with him and he with I. Even though the movies has always portrayed him as a player, a man that is not faithful to woman, I can still see the good in him. I laughed at myself and at the silly wish I had just made. I knew that it would never come true because nobody is able to make a fictional character real. Not even the magic of a shooting star.

I stood up and stretched. After I stretched I felt this awkward dizziness come whirling towards my head. I sat down in order to try to ease the feeling. But it didn't work. Then all of a sudden...the room was dark.

Ahoy, Mate!

Crew's P.O.V.

"Man overboard!" Marty shouted. The crew comes racing towards the edge of the ship to see if it was really true.

Sure enough there was a body floating in the water. Scrum goes to retrieve a rope. "Here Marty. Now who is going to save the lad?" Everyone turns and looks at Crimp, the best swimmer on the ship. He seemed confused about why everyone was looking at him but he quickly caught on.

"Oh, for Pete's sake, hand me the rope." They tied the rope on Crimp and he dove into the water. A few minutes later he is pulled back aboard the ship with the stowaway.

"Slap me thrice, and hand me to my momma, it's a girl!" Mr. Gibs makes his way through the crowd. "What was she doing in the middle of the ocean?"

The crew returns to the edge of the ship in order to try and spot any clues or hints of the young girls where abouts. But they found no sign of her family or a ship or anything.

They returned back to the girl's side and told of their findings which was nothing. Just then she started to stir and come to.

                                               Nila's P.O.V.

"Wh...what happened?" I rubbed my head. I have got a massive headache. Just then I looked up to take in my surroundings to find a bunch of old dirty men staring at me. I screamed and ran far from them. "What the hell are you doing?!" I start to fall but am able to catch myself.

"Am I on a ship?!" I asked looking out into the watery horizon.

"Yes, Miss." A man said to me. "Your on the Black Pearl."

"What! The Black Pearl isn't real! How can I be on the Black Pearl if it's not real?!"

"But, Miss..."

"Stop calling me that!!!" I yelled.

"Well,...madam," I rolled my eyes," The Black Pearl is real."

"No it's not, the Black Pearl is a fictional ship in an fictional movie with fictional characters," I yelled.

"Uh. What's a movie, Miss?" Crimp asked.

"Aaagghhh!!!" I ran down the stairs and into a room and slammed the door. I then sat down to try to take everything in but I couldn't and I started crying. "What's going on?" I asked myself, "I never thought I'd say this but I want to go back to the orphanage."

A few minutes into my crying, I started hearing some footsteps walking my way. I tucked myself as far in the corner as I could and tried to stay quiet. Then I heard a voice I never thought I'd hear. Well, not in real life. Wait... is this real life?

"Mr. Gibs, I expect you're able to account for why there's been a perpetual and virulent screaming upon my vessel?" It was Jack Sparrow! I slowly and quietly peaked my head around the corner to see if it was really him. I looked and there he was. I just saw his back but that was all the evidence I needed. "I am on the Pearl."

Jack overheard my whispering and turned around. I tucked myself back in my corner as I listened to his footsteps become louder and louder and louder. He soon felt so close to me I thought he was right on top of me staring down at me with those gorgeous brown eyes. The kind of eyes you could see another world through. The kind of eyes that, if you stared in them too long, you could get lost. He was also probably smiling that charming smile. The kind of smile that would forever be in your mind.

The footsteps stop, but there is no sign of him. I look around the corner to see if I could spot him. Then all of a sudden I hear a sharp sound, as if a sword was being pulled out of a holster. I then feel something cold against my throat. I carefully turn around to see what is was. Sure enough, it was the end of a sword. I looked up and there was those eyes. Those eyes and his charming face.
