The End

The End.

She slammed the book shut, harder than intended, and tossed it aside.

"Predictable," she groaned. She stood up from her couch, her mind turning the end over in her mind. Every loose end, tied up in a big, pink, obnoxiously cute bow. "Tch." She walked to the bookshelf to look for something else - anything else - to read, when she heard a cough behind her. She spun around to see him standing there. Kirby, the main character. Violet eyes, long, black hair, leather jacket, pointed ears. She was too stunned to even scream.

"You have a problem with how that book turned out?" he asked. She blinked, unable to say anything. "Helloooo? Ashley?"

"Haaaa..." He was staring at her. Like she was insane. She probably was insane, right? "You're..."

"Yeah," he said. "I'm the main character. Was the book too perfect for you, or what? Everybody living at the end too boring for you?"

Something stirred in her chest. Anger. She glared up at him. "Yes, actually," she snapped. Kirby looked taken aback. "A story about a war and only one main character dies? Come on, you have to admit it's a little weak."

He leaned over and flicked her forehead. "Magic."

"That's a cop-out," she said.

He paused, staring at her. She continued glaring into his eyes, glowing a dark, royal purple.

"Well, who needed to die?"

Ashley opened her mouth to speak, but caught herself. Who needed to die? She hadn't thought about it. She knew someone else needed to, but she wasn't sure who, now that the question was posed.
