Introduction

Zion is a combat machine. He is not the ordinary gadget that you see these days. He is loyal to his mission, he is obsess with it, and he will kill for it. His artificial lenses are often blue, but they often turn red. And when it turns bloody red, beware.

Zion is set out to complete his mission after his ten years of waiting. He is created by a man named Positive Crime. His journey is set in a futuristic Cenyth, where humans and machines are fashioned in neon. Zion has to find his "mission" only to meet this person who is still clad in his traditional noble cloak. And is he with a butler?

Later in the story, the combat machine finds himself in the company of a hot-tempered noble lord, a butler, and a blind woman named Yolanda in the midst of a universal havoc. And much to his unexpected journey, the very person whom he needs to find is actually a...well, that is a secret for now.

What is the reason behind Zion's mission? Why did he have to wait 10 long years? A science fiction story with lots of action, humor, robots, flying ships and a whole pack of weird people and combat machines joined together in the midst of machine invasion.

I really like the narration style of this. It's very relaxed but it draws you in. I like what you've written so far!

Chapter 1 - The Cenyth

There had been a planet called Earth a long, long time ago. This planet was the only place of mankind. Time spent and the poor Earth could no longer serve the incessant increase of humanity, and eventually, they expanded their dominions to the terrestrial of Mars, as it was often featured in old movies.

The human technology was already unstoppable when people expanded to Mars, which was now called as Maxima. The genius of all geniuses, Doctor Sean Priory, invented the intellectual machines called “AI Gadget.” The Earth since then was called Earth no more. The old grey epithet was branded as part of the history. It was now called “Cenyth."

Cenyth became the center of humans and trade. Maxima became the main producer of agriculture, robots and other amenities. There in the Maxima stood the headquarters of all scientists, including the scientific lair of old Sean Priory.

If you wanted to socialize with humans or make business, Cenyth was the good planet for you. But if you're an inventor or a producer of things, you better go to Maxima. That's how it commonly works. Although not all the time.

There had been green and nurtured forests in the history books, even in online libraries. There had been pictures of fresh, blue, and artificial seas in the museums and art galleries. Well, you barely see them now, physically I mean. After the Nuclear War, most of the God-given gifts became a myth. Only one forest survived and it was called The Forest. The Pacific Ocean was no longer a threat, in fact, the sea level was too shallow to be called an ocean.

In Cenyth, you could barely see a warm land or green surface above the ground. Everything was cemented into smart roads, but most roads by the way, were hovering above the ground and tall buildings, creating endless paths for the skyrocketing cars. The trending cars, to give a clear imagery, were hovering like rainbows in the clouds. The colors vary from brilliant red, green, orange, yellow and everything else that was neon.  Yes, they were all neon, a very sad fact eventually.

Some of the buildings were painted neon, but the corporate ones remained relaxing to the eyes of many, in which many here were not that many at all. Cenyth people had gone past beyond normal to eventually embrace the annoying palettes in the color wheel. Annoying neons were now considered to be the most comfortable colors, in other words, it’s the fashion.

Well, it wasn't necessary that you wear a neon accessory on your body, there was no Cenyth law that you would get imprisoned for not wearing one. Unfortunately however, lacking such color on you meant that you’d be mocked wherever you go. Even if you travel to Maxima, which was a five-month trip via high-speed elevator (but these were not the usual elevators, but those that were very long and quite endless, tube-like and quite silky when touched) still the mockery would be there.

Sean Priory created AI machines but he wasn't the man behind the neon fashion. He wasn't even a lover of it. He was an old man now. His age was something no one actually knew, not even his close subordinates. Sean was immensely close-lipped about this matter, but some of his fans were guessing that he's around fifty-five despite his young-looking face—thanks to the tremendous power of facial surgery.

There above the smarty ground, not the usual rough, narrow, and dirty ground, but a ground with wifi's and bluetooths, there laid two pathways just beside the smarty road. These pathways were narrow, colored as always, and they’re connected to the nearby train stations. Some of these pathways would bring you up to the air highways. Each narrow path was designated for two types of walkers: the Cenyth people and the AI gadgets.

“Mom, please buy me a gadget! I want a female one.” Requested a young boy to his high-fashioned mother during a gadget expo in Block 1.

“It's very expensive, my dear. Besides, we can't buy that now. The law doesn't allow your age to have it. Come, anyway, I need to buy a new neon dress.”

“After college, you should buy me a gadget, Mom.”

“Well, let's see.”

Cenyth Age! You see. That's a normal conversation between parents and child. Well, humans were not the only ones lurking the Cenyth these days. There were AI machines everywhere, too. Some others would call them AI gadget. But they're the same thing.

AI gadgets were human-like in figures, they had the faces of an ordinary human. Splendidly, they walk, talk, ride, and interact like normal Cenythians. Some of the AI models were beautiful, really, really good-looking machines, and some were just, well, let’s say plain-looking. The only difference that made them noticeable from real humans was that they had a ring of ownership around their right wrists—always in the right wrist. Included in that skin bracelet was the tiny dots of bar codes, shaped into a ring of bracelet, and the dots were so tiny that it could be mistaken as black lines. This ring of ownership meant that someone owned them, someone was controlling them, a human bearer.

A gadget must always have a bearer. They could not function without a human owner. They were very skilled and had their own specialty. They could do everything except combats or engaging into any forms of fights. They were highly intellectual, however, all these things could be made possible only with the command of the bearer. Without the bearer’s ownership, they were just useless toys.

Gadgets could not think of their own, although they had the world’s encyclopedia. Their thoughts, actions, decisions, and programmed emotions were set according to their bearer's wish. They were nothing but series of program codes. Their inner body was made of steel, in fact there were three layers of steel, but Sean Priory was a lover of soft skin so he ended up inventing the fourth layer, the silicon skin, which was quite comparable to human skin.

There was one rule that every gadget should abide. It was the protocol that Sean Priory created before his official launch, the most important protocol upon which the government obliged him to comply. This is the rule of not hurting, however light or small, the bearers. Not even to kill or the thought of killing, may it be intentional or not.

Of course, gadgets could not think of their own but their owners could order them to hurt someone, which was very, very forbidden by the law. But even if the bearer would order his gadget to hurt someone, he wouldn't abide on it, instead, he would inflict to himself a self-detonation after running away from his bearer. Once a gadget was detonated, their data would be sent over to Sean Priory’s system, also to the government, informing them of the detonation. Immediately after the data was received, the owner of that gadget would be investigated. A criminal record would then follow to his name. And no one wanted that.

Although they looked similarly like humans, they were not in any way considered to be one. They were just highly-intellectual robots created by Sean Priory to ease the living of the human race. The main purpose of gadgets were to assist their bearers in their every day living, such as general house chores, groceries, cooking, paper works, travel guides, and dictionary, and so on. What they’re not allowed to do was to use them out of entertainment. They're not programmed to that sort of thing. They had chest, specifically breasts for women gadgets, but there was nothing else past beyond the belts—they didn't have genitals! Seriously.

Cenythian who haven’t graduated to college yet were not allowed by law to have their own gadgets.  This was to ensure that every kid above the ground was studying on their own way, else they might end up a failure. You see, even if gadgets were rampant these days, there were still certain laws regarding how to use and buy them. Moreover, not everybody could buy a gadget, it cost a great fortune, probably someone’s entire future.

Most of these gadgets were not harmful. But, on the other side of the story, there were specialized gadgets which could harm people, specifically the bad ones. Intellectual gadgets were different from combat ones. Combat machines (or combat gadgets) were programmed to fight in minor events, such as border feuds, criminal chases, and other wars in small, controversial nations. The war that was currently on-going in Suden against Kintar, Miplah against Odorn, and the cold war between England against Chanel, just to name a few.

If not for the intervention of the New Nation, these enraging countries would fire nuclear when they get the chance. The only advantage of using combat machines in war was to lessen the casualties and death. The disadvantage was that it could make a nation go bankrupt—combat machines were more expensive than the normal ones.

One could not simply buy a combat gadget, because only those from the government were allowed to purchase them. Every country had their own limit of combat machines, this was to ensure that they were not abused in wars. Besides, if a country such as Irhan was always permissible to buy combat machines from Sean Priory’s company, then the wars would be endless. In fact, in order to minimize the uproars, only ten combat machines were allowed per country. Most of them were used as police officers and road patrollers. Sometimes they work along with their bearers.

They said that due to combat machines, the conflicts above the Cenyth ground were controlled and minimized, unlike the previous wars of history which was more ravished, brutal, and upon which severely caused the deaths of many. But no one above the ground have yet realized the possible outrageous effect of combat machines, no one yet, except me and my bearer. Basically speaking, I knew of this because my bearer told me so before he left.

My name, by the way, was Zion, a researcher of a famous detective in Panes, a faceless man called Positive Crime. I used to be a police officer, but some things changed upon receiving the information that we acquired for unknown purpose. All the information I gathered was not my own, they were programmed into my system and my bearer was the root of it all. He programmed me to do what I was going to do from now on.

The conversation upon which I was going to share was acquired dialog, acquired information, very vital, very deadly, and very confidential, something I couldn't discard because they were simply stored inside my database.

“The war in England and Chanel have been going in for two years. Perhaps other countries such as Irhan would soon declare war against the ancient England.” Doctor Sean Priory said to Davidson Garnett, his junior scientist. “Hey, Davidson, what's wrong with your country? They attract enemies so much.”

“Can’t be helped. Old England has the oldest culture, they're all freak.” Davidson replied, tossing his white gown on the nearby chair. Davidson Garnett had a blonde hair, and it wasn't ruffled, it wasn't messed up, he was always clean, formal-looking. He was tall, approximately five-nine, and I couldn't be sure about this because I haven’t met this man in person. I was only dependent upon the information that was sent to me. My bearer only knew his face, his hobbies, his lifestyle, career and family background, apart from these things I knew nothing.

“I don't think that New Nation could keep them longer.” Sean Priory said, he was busy staring at his large, flat screen and it was hologram. On his screen there were red dots moving slowly, some were fast, and some were idle. These dots were the virtual traces of his machines scattered in different places. Every machine had their own GPS system implanted in them, and Sean Priory wasn't the only one who monitored these tracks. They were many.

In his science lab, geographically located in the epicenter of Maxima, there were lots of men and women:  chemists, biologists, radiologists, computer scientists and engineers, including gadgets who served as their personal assistants. Valiant, a combat machine, was the head of the security department designated to protect the science building—the building was called The Science Peak.

Valiant's bearer was Doctor Sean Priory himself, and he was considered as the deadliest combat machine that ever existed. Of course, if you were the one who invented these things then you would want the bravest, strongest, and the most skilled combat machine for yourself. Sean Priory was no exception. The genius doctor, by the way, was a Jewish descendant.

“The England government stopped purchasing new AI’s.  We can assume that they are considering to launch their nuclear against Chanel. Oh well, I no longer understand why they keep fighting.”

“It was said that my homeland stole a valuable thing.”

“Do you know?”

“I’m a scientist. Not a government official.” Davidson replied.

“Heh...you're cold when you're here, huh. However, as your superior, I could not miss to notice the smile on your lips whenever you’re deployed to go home. Why is that?”

“That’s because I have someone who is always waiting for me. Unlike someone else I know here who didn’t have time for his family.”

“That’s rude to say to your superior,” Sean Priory said, in my data he swiveled his chair towards Davidson, and it was captured that both laughed together like some close friends who were making fun of each other.

The scene was so good and full of life, lots of laughter inside the lab, not until the door slammed close and Valiant, the combat AI of Sean Priory, who was also inside the Main Room by the way, suddenly fired a shot to Davidson’s head and quickly killed his bearer by running to him fast and twisted his neck.

In only three seconds, and in three moves, the two scientists were immediately...

...dead.
