The Goodbyes

It was the year 3056; however, for some reason the world, instead of progressing forward, went back in time. Instead of having hover boards, flying cars, and talking houses, our people have gone back to the customs from as early as the sixteenth century. The answer to why civilization decided to go backwards will become clear later, now is not the time to worry about that. Though unlike the past, there is something new in humans, an evolution. Today there is a select amount of people with powers and these powers range from becoming invisible to becoming gigantic, there is a wide range. Though right now, the only thing that matters is the fact that I, the Princess of Amicitia, a rather new country, am being sent off on my “coming-of- age” mission.

“Juniel, your bags are packed. Get out of here already,” my stepmother said from behind me. I didn’t respond my stepmother and I waited for her exaggerated sigh and then the click-clack of her high heels as she walked away. I guess you can tell that we aren’t on the best terms. My birth mother died during childbirth, my birth, and my father married my stepmother, his mistress. There is some kind of political element to the whole marriage concept; however, I do not wish to go into it for I rather not speak of that lady at all, because I see her true colors.

I looked away from the window and began walking down the halls towards the castle’s entrance. There was my father smiling proudly at me as I approached. He opened his arms wide and I walked into the welcoming gestures and hugged my father back, it would be awhile until I see his face again.

“Papa…” I stepped back from his embrace, my eyes watered and I buried my face one against in his chest. My father gave a hearty laughed and patted my back while saying, “Oh child, child. My sweet, sweet child. Be brace, be strong. I will be cheering for you the whole way.” I smiled to his warm and encouraging words and nodded my head. Then, I pushed myself away from him and skipped around him and waved my arm, shouting: “Then I’m off to travel the world and master my two powers!”

Without saying much after that, I hugged Papa once more and jumped onto my flying panda bear, Tave, with my nanny, Sonya. One last wave and we were off the ground. I leaned back as Sonya took over the reins and off we flew towards the Unknown Woods, where my journey begins.

Step One:

Tave landed right in front of the looming tress and opened his mouth. "Of course you want a treat," I chuckled as I jumped out the large panda and tossed a bamboo branch towards his direction. Then I turned I looked into the inifite darkness within the forest and shivered. Most children with powers didn't have to go through this "coming-of-age" mission; however, because I was a princess and had two different types of powers, this mission was required to be performed according to the Ministry of Amicitia. As for my two powers, I guess it is now fit to explain them.

I have the ability of bringing drawings to life. It's simply just using some kind of writing utensil on a piece of paper and blowing on it. This power is a rarity among our people, usually our powers originate from the world's elements, such as fire, water, air, and earth. This moves onto my second power, which is water bending. With any source of water, I can bend it and use it as a defensive or offensive weapon. Within my little country, water bending is one of the most common powers and some have even been able to find more uses of their water bending such as using the water to heal others. I sadly, have yet to reach the stage of being able to heal another with my power.

Anyways, step one on this journey... taking the first step and initiating the mission by taking this first step.
