Choices
i
With every heartbeat and subtle smile,
with every lingering kiss and chastened touch,
with every knowing glance and soft embrace,
know that I will love you.
ii
Though times bring change to you and I,
though bodies grow frail and weak and such,
though the mirror creaks to betray our face,
know that I love you.
iii
Love begins with passion, ablaze our hearts,
love grows through knowledge, we understand.
love survives through fire, the trials we share,
know that I have loved you.
iv
When you are weak, I will choose you.
When enraged you misspeak, I will choose you.
When you cut and mock, still, will I choose you.
Know: how I love you.
v
And when our marathon concludes,
and when, hand in hand we face arid dunes
or storm-tossed seas that, with one voice we defy,
know now; that I have always loved you.
