What Not To Do During Your Pregnancy

Wondering what to do and what not to do when you are pregnant? Here are some extremely useful tips.

Do Not Eat Food That’s Bad For The Baby

Unfortunately, there is a list of things you are not allowed to eat during a pregnancy. These include uncooked seafood like sushi, oysters, clams and even mussels. You will also have to avoid the rare meat like the plague. This includes poultry as well. The uncooked meat and seafood might contain salmonella or even toxoplasmosis.

You will also have to get rid of the deli meat, no matter how much you crave it. Deli meat can include listeria which is a bacteria that is able to penetrate the placenta and influence the baby’s development.

Stay away from fish that have high levels of mercury as well. This includes shark as well as swordfish and mackerel as well. If you are wondering whether to eat tuna or not, do remember that canned tuna actually contains low levels of mercury and that is why you will have to avoid consuming mercury for the next nine months. Also, you will have to sidestep the smoked seafood as well. Just because it is advised for you to not consume raw seafood it does not mean that you will be able to consume the smoked seafood. It will also contain large amounts of listeria –unfortunately so.

Do Not Be Idle All Day

It is true that you will experience a lot of discomfort throughout your nine months. However, the bad back, blocked circulation in the legs and even swollen ankles might actually have a solution; which is exercising. This does not mean that you have to go ahead and keep lifting weights; although some actually do it. This might actually put your body through a lot and you might not be able to keep doing your hard workout as usual. You will feel quite exhausted quickly, and therefore you will have to stay away from the rough and exhausting workout routines. You can try out relaxing exercises the likes of yoga and a bit of Pilates. Invest in some maternity active wear which will allow you to move around easily.

Do Not Paint The Nursery Just Yet

Just because you have found out that you are pregnant, you don’t have to go ahead and paint the nursery immediately, even it is a gender neutral color. Speaking out of experience and comments from other moms, even if you had been dead on about letting your little one grow amid a gender neutral color, you will change your mind surely once you have found out which gender your baby is. Plus, you do not want anyone visiting the baby judge the color of your baby’s nursery.

Do Not Overdo The Caffeine

True that a couple of coffee cups can really wake you up in the morning. However, this might not be entirely good for the baby. Drinking too much coffee throughout the day can boost your blood pressure, the rate of your heartbeat and even the number of times you have to visit the washroom. As the baby is still growing you will have to forgo the caffeine to help with the baby’s metabolism.
