Hort Park

Chinese Garden

The moment you enter this magnificient garden, you will find huge lions made of stone guarding its gates. It is a Chinese tradition to protect imperial palaces with pride worthy animals. The Chinese believe that these animals have the mythical ability to protect. Spread across 14 hectares of land the garden feels like a part of China has been sliced and placed here in the western part of Singapore. The Garden comprises of a traditional tea house, a Pagoda and stone bridges. Famously designed by the architect Yuenchen Yu in the year 1975, the Garden follows the imperial architecture of the Chinese people from the North. Other remarkable features of the garden are Bonsai Garden. There are about 100 Bonsais that have been imported in this garden from China, Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan.
