The Awakening

Awakened by the rumbling thunder piercing into his heart. Anu swiftly sat up while gasping for air and clutching his chest. His other hand laid on a wet dirt floor. He fully opened his eyes and peered out of his hand-made hut. Anu looked at the ground and became confused as to why the ground was wet. He then felt his arm, and cupped his face. He put his hand back onto the ground and realized his sweat had moistened the ground. Anu poked his head out once more from his hut and realized it had not rained.

"Where did I hear the thunder come from?" He questioned himself.

Anu stood all the way up and walked out of his hut. The air was thick, moist and fresh vegetation filled the air.

"Where did the noise come from?"

He thought again.

Anu looked up and peered above him. A thick blanket of oversized leaves, branches and vines blocked his view. Anu reached, and pulled himself up with one of the thickest vines he could see. He crawled up the vine, latched on to a sturdy branch, and forced himself up to the top of the tree. As Anu grew closer to the top, birds flew away, monkeys stretched grabbed their young and went the opposite direction, even snakes became uneasy from the sight of this boy. Although this had not been news for Anu, every animal he had come in contact with became weary.

Anu finally reached the top of the tree and looked into the horizon. The skyline was something of a blood orange fading into a deep purple. The tertiary colors of sky reflected reminded Anu that it was almost night time and he should be hunting for food soon.

Anu continued to peer into the vast distance, thick trees covered the land for at least 5 miles into nothingness.

"no clouds"

Anu thought to himself.

"Then where did that noise come from?"

The Awakening

He took in a deep breath and started down the tree back to flat ground again.

Pushing through plants that stood as tall and taller than him, stepping over even the smallest forms of life. Anu walking very light of the earth made it back to his hut. He grabbed a wooden spear that he had sculpted a while back. Anu tied it to the side of his woven cover up. He started into the the jungle following the beams of sunlight that peeked through the heavy leaves of the area.

As Anu walked and crawled through the jungle he heard a deep roar near by. He stopped right in his tracks and looked around. He could not see what made that noise. Knowing that he should instead turn the opposite direction, something was off about the roar. The roar came again but this time there was more pain behind it than anything. Anu dashed through the woods and followed the noise. Jumping over rocks, heavy bushes, even other animals. Anu came to a stop and gasped, he clutched his spear and his eyes widened. It was the most majestic creature, a tiger. Who had been laying down in agony.

Anu was not scared he was more confused at the fact that the animal did not shy away from him as the others did. Anu approached the tiger slowly, as he got closer the animal roared in defense as that was all it could do. The tiger tried to grasp the ground to crawl out of the way. Anu crept up closer and realized there had been something wrong with the tigers leg. Anu bent down and took in a deep breath, peering at the fangs of the beast but looking into the pain of its eyes. Anu closed his eyes, put his spear down, grasped his necklace with one hand and put the other over the tigers lame leg. He knew it had been broken. Anu carefully set his hand on the leg of the tiger and  took in a deep breath.

The Awakening

 "Ah!"

Anu screamed while pulling his hand back swiftly. His entire arm became hot to the touch, steam rose from the tigers leg. The animal quickly leaped up and let out a huge groan.

Anu gasped, stood back up, and grasped his spear once again. Staring at the tiger it began to lick its leg. As confused as Anu was, he moved closer to the tiger to figure out what had happened. The tiger looked at Annu, growled and flashed his claws. The tiger jumped at Anu, he quickly turned around and ran as fast as he could through the jungle. Leaping over rocks, swinging through vines. The tiger was still on Anus trail. Anu kept running, he had never been chased by an animal before and didn't realize how far he could run. Anu looked back and couldn't see the tiger anymore.

As he turned back to the front  he realized he could not run anymore. The ground had a drop off of 60 feet or more with crashing waves at the bottom. Anu quickly stopped on the edge  before pummeling down the 60 feet drop. Trying to catch the perfect breath Anu heard the tigers roars get closer, he turned around once again and saw the tiger in the far distance.

"He must be tracking my smell"

Anu thought.
