Introduction

On a magical, Christmas eve at 2510 Bethany court, Medford Oregon, there was a conversation being had and this wasn't your usual three-sentence conversation, this was a unique, life-changing conversation. Yes, this night was truly magical but that will be explained later. Heather and Russ Koehler had just put away their four kids tightly in their bed so that they could dream of finding bikes, candy, and toys on Christmas morning unaware that their life was about to change. “I'm not going to do it,” said Russ Koehler. “But I have a strong feeling like god has called me to do this.” said his dear wife Heather.

Sorry, let me back you up a bit on this vital conversation. This adorable couple is talking about adopting another child, now do you understand why this is life-changing? Good, let's move on.

Russ replied to Heather, “Alright, Alright. Who am I to stand in the way of what the holy spirit is leading you to do. I do not want to stand before our maker when I meet him in person and have him say to me ‘you knucklehead, why did you get in the way of my almighty plans?” At this point, Russ committed to Heather that he would pray about this child every day for one month, asking God “If this is your will, change my heart.” Heather didn't pester Russ about his commitment to her until day 30. “Well?” she said. “Your right. There is definitely another Koehler out there but I have some stipulations; this child cant be another kid in the world who won't make a difference, this child has to be a strong, courageous child who will make this world a better place, and his name has to be Joshua or Caleb.” Some people in this world who have not read the Bible might say “why the hell is it vital that when you adopt a kid their name has to be Joshua or Caleb," but others who have, know that Joshua and Caleb led the people of Egypt into the promised land, they were leaders, and the child they were going to adopt had to be one too. Now you might be thinking is this just another boring Biography I guess you just have to take a leap of faith on Dreams, Struggles, Reality, and find out.

Chapter one: Welcome to uganda

The Koehler's had just landed in Uganda, Africa after two years of preparation since the night before Christmas when the wife of Russ Koehler had a strong feeling that somewhere in the world the 5th Koehler family member had been abandoned and found. “Hello, this is Heather Koehler wondering if I could come down to the orphanage and meet my son.¨ On the other side of the phone someone answered kindly ¨Oh definitely, we actually pulled some strings and decided to bend the NO VISITORS ON THE WEEKEND policy, so you can see him tomorrow morning, will that work?¨ Heather who could not wait to see her future son said ”YES, that would work perfectly, thank you."

Heather hung up the phone very excited she would be able to meet her future son the next morning. The night before the orphanage visit was a rough one for Heather who usually slept like a rock now could not sleep at all. The next morning the Koehler family met the staff at the hotel so they could learn what to expect over the next month, then they got right to the fun of meeting their future son.
