5 things you should not do in your thesis or dissertation

Writing an academic paper to complete a course is both an incredible and arduous task.

Before the confetti and the flag at the finish line there will be moments of euphoria, reflection, discouragement and despair, not necessarily in this order.

So we made a list with some tips for those who are traveling this way:

1. DO NOT PROCRASTINE

It sounds magical: just sit in front of the computer to write our work that anything on the internet or on the television becomes more attractive and interesting. From humor videos on YouTube to calls about Nana Gouveia on Globo's website.    And that is where the danger lives: time passes, the deadline is approaching, and what could have been written calmly and very carefully, turns out to be written in haste.

The tip here is one: discipline. Organize your time, set daily, weekly, and monthly goals, and police yourself. Are you blocking creatively? Do you stare at the blinking cursor on the blank screen?  Stop thinking that your work needs to be written in a linear fashion, that is, from beginning to end. By the way, you can search for specific services that provide phd thesis help and ask for help. However, you need to understand that such services can help you with the beginning, and everything else is only up to you.

Once you will have the beginning of your thesis, one idea will pull another, and the text will flow naturally.

2. DO NOT BE LOST

A phrase repeated to exhaustion in motivational talks for entrepreneurs is "for those who do not know where they want to go, any place will do." For this idea applies to the elaboration of your academic work as well. After all the work of collecting and analysing the data, and with your hypotheses and your goals in mind, write your conclusions.    The conclusions should not be the last part to be written. Must be the first. Thus, it is possible to plan all the text so that it leads and prepares the reader for the conclusions.    The definition of the conclusions of the work may also assist in the writing of the entire text, mainly in the discussion of the results.

 3. DO NOT SAVE ON THE READING OF ARTICLES

First, reading more will help you write better. You should hear this from elementary school. It's true. Also, reading various articles related to your topic will give you greater security in discussing your results and other ways of looking at your research problem.    Mastering the subject on you is writing and fundamental, so do not be lazy to read many articles.

4. DO NOT SUBESTIME ABNT

There is nothing more annoying than formatting text according to ABNT standards. Avoid leaving to do this just after finishing work, when you will probably be tired and without much patience.    Learn the rules in advance and already write your text according to them, especially if you do not use a bibliographic citation manager, such as EndNote, Mendeley or Zotero. I am finding the authors of quotations that you did not put the reference while writing could take a long time, which makes the task anti-productive.

5. DO NOT SPECIFY

Avoid generalities, but abuse the data. Generalities are good for bar table talk. Each statement in your text should be able to be supported by data, information and interpretations found in articles and texts of other authors or in your own research.    It does not matter what - or who - you use to base your claims, or whether you explicitly refer to each statement, but all statements need to be supported in some way.
