How To Choose The Right Biker Jeans

Riding is fun, but the fun can get risky. Every year, it’s estimated that about five thousand bikers die of road accidents. Research has it that if these bikers had worn the right gear, at least 1000 of them would survive. Well, nothing can guarantee your safety because, after all, every crush is different; but you could significantly lower your chances of getting hurt if you wear the right gear. Alongside all other biking safety gear, you need a good pair of biker jeans. There are three types of jeans: single layer, part-lined and fully-lined biker jeans. So, how do you choose the right Biker Jeans? Keep reading this article to understand the buying guide.

  • CE certification

The first step to choosing the right biking jeans should be checking for CE certification. CE is a body that tests the protection level of biking kits. The CE label is located on the inner side of the jeans, stitched around the waistline. These jeans are not necessarily more expensive than non-tested jeans.

  • Consider your style of riding/ use of the jeans

Are you a racer, cruiser, commuter, adventure tourer, or the classic biker? What will you be doing when you’re off the bike- sitting all day in an office or moving around? If you’ll be riding for a while and the rest of your time you’ll spend off-bike, you should consider lighter part-lined or fully-lined jeans that don’t feel too warm when you are off-bike. Check that the fully-lined jeans are not too bulky to cause discomfort. Also, check that the lined parts of the part-lined jeans aren’t too thick to cause discomfort. The goal is to find a pair that feels comfortable both on and off the bike and still offers adequate protection.

  • Consider fabric

There are two types of textile jeans, synthetic jeans, and denim jeans. Synthetic jeans could be made of polyester, nylon, or Kevlar. Although they are not waterproof, synthetic jeans are very breathable, making them suitable for hot weather biking. Denim jeans, on the other hand, combine features of comfort and excellent breathability. However, they are neither waterproof nor heatproof.

  • Abrasion resistance and impact protection

Synthetic jeans made of nylon and polyester, have low abrasion protection. Kevlar, on the contrary, offers excellent abrasion protection. The three synthetic fabrics don’t provide any impact protection; thus, they have to be outfitted with armor. Similar to synthetic jeans, denim jeans have no abrasion resistance and impact protection. Consider denim jeans with built-in Kevlar panels at the hips, thighs, knees, and seat. The blend ensures better abrasion and impact protection and still provides comfort and breathability. Abrasion is not only about the material; it’s also about stitching. Be sure to check that the stitching is equally strong to the material.

Conclusion

Take note of the above factors when buying bike jeans. Some other thing you could look at include zippers, pockets, waist design (belt or suspender), and higher back  (protects your back from the cold wind just in case your jacket is not long enough to cover the entire back). Remember that buying jeans that fit you properly means that they will remain intact; thus, your high-impact areas will remain protected in case of an accident. Choose safety by choosing the right biker jeans.
