His roommates had finally gone back to the hotel room at Vance's behest. Furthermore, for the first night since he had first seen her, the current object of his attention was dining alone. THIS was the moment that Vance had waited for since arriving in Playa Del Carmen for Spring Break.

When Shad had brought up the idea of a Spring Break trip to Mexico split five ways, Vance had been the first to jump on his best friend's idea. However, if four out of five travelers had been after adventures to be shared together, then Vance had already shared one too many college adventures with them; and they were all kind of boring. For Vance, Spring Break was the only break in town to allow someone new the experience of first meeting him.

He had first seen her from afar on the group's very first night at the resort. Brown, deep set eyes, bronzed skin, a knockout body. Two problems occurred: Vance was eating with the rest of his group and she (he could learn her name on his own time any old time he wanted to) was eating with her parents.

The next several days resulted in a relationship exchanged over subtle cues and secret signals. Vance gave her the very best "meet Mr. Wonderful" smile in his arsenal; she had answered him back with a dazzling grin of her own. Vibes had been traded across dining halls for three nights. That was exactly two nights more than Vance was used to and both parties were FINALLY dining alone. Tonight, he was moving in for the kill...

Vance jumped up from his table, his meal ignored, and snaked his way toward her own perch. A waiter had beaten him to the table but, once the waiter was off doing whatever she had asked of him, she was all his! Vance crept closer and closer to his next romantic conquest; now he was finally in near enough distance to at least hear what her voice sounded like (granted he was still eavesdropping on her conversation with the restaurant staff). Another problem, an actual problem, finally occurred to him...

What had she even said? No, Vance wasn't deaf; he had picked up enough to know what her voice sounded like (he'd liked it). He just didn't understand what her words were. Finally, the problem hit him and he was ready to ring Shad's neck for ever suggesting Spring Break in Mexico. He was a tourist; she must have been a Native or at least known the Native tongue. Vance was disgusted. What did they even speak in Mexico; Chinese, right?

The girl, the object of hours of his attention, realized that Vance was approaching and graced him with another brown-eyed, dazzling smile. Vance, in turn, turned and ran like Hell out of the restaurant...
