White Noise Wilma

Introduction

"It's my car so I get to chose the radio station Liz."

"You're such a spoil sport." Just because Wilma is older than me she thinks she can boss me about. It's always been like this ever since I can remember. She's only two years older than me. But that means she gets to do everything first, and always be in charge.

"It's not even good music. You listen to the same stuff as Dad."

"Dads got very good taste in music actually." She says smirking.

When I get my own car, Wilma will be lucky if I even let her in it. The radio starts to crackle and then nothing. Great. This fuzz is worse than the music she had on.

"Now can I choose something?" I plead.

"No Liz. it will be back on in a sec, its just lost signal."

"Did you her that?" I ask.

"What now? You're driving me bonkers today."

"No, shhh. Listen."

We both sit silently and listen. It's just a whisper at first. But then it gets louder and clearer.

'Wilma.' A male voice says the name over and over again. It's hard to hear. But we can both hear it.

Wilma shoots me a sideways glance "Very funny. How are you doing that?"

"I'm not doing it." I shake my head and I'm aware that my mouth is hanging open but I can't close it. Wilma looks at my face and she must believe me because she pulls the car over.

"Well if its not you, it must be someone else, just messing about." She laughs nervously. She presses the scan button to tune in to the next available radio station. "Wilma."

And the next. "Wilma."

All of them the same voice, saying the same thing. "Wilma." It gets louder and louder. "Wilma." I put my hands over my ears and so does Wilma. I close my eyes tight and shout for it to stop. I open my eyes. Wilma is gone. I slowly move my hands away from my ears. The radio is back to normal. Playing the song Wilma had chosen. I get out of the car and turn around looking for her. The keys are still in the ignition, but she is gone.

I get close my door and get in the drivers seat. I need to take the car home and find mum and dad. I put the car in to gear and pull away. The radio crackles.

"Liz."
